N75, electrical connector up or down ?

I put new silicone hoses on 4 of my passat's... then noticed that half of the n75 had the electrical connector facing up, half of them facing down. Reference ( http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=100184&highlight=silicone+hose )

So.... I suspect it does matter because oil builds up in the lower hose.

Which is right, up or down ?

The hose routing diagram on the emissions label shows it correctly.

All of mine are somewhat hard to read... plus having 50% facing up and 50% facing down isnt all that comforting. Is the top and bottom port flow through or are they metered ?

They'll work in any position, but according to the diagram, the connector goes down on B4s and, I believe, up on A3s.

The orientation of the valve is unimportant except for clearance issues.
The sticker shows the correct connections of the hoses. Turbo boost pressure to the port at the electrical connector. Ambient atmospheric to the port opposite the electrical connector. Wastegate actuation pressure from the side port.
I deliberately didn't list the usual color code for two reasons.
One, to make you check that the three hoses are connected to the correct locations at that other end, too.
Two, the silicone hose you used is probably all black anyway.

All three of my B4 have had the valve mounted opposite (connector up) of the sticker illustration.


Factory color code:
Red, Turbo boost pressure to valve;
Black, Atmospheric intake to valve;
Blue, Valve to wastegate.

That's how I put the new "colored" hoses on. I ordered from Carr McMaster and they were here the next day. Can't ask for better than that. Thanks for the answers.
