I towed a Ford Tempo at 2750 lbs on a tow dolly that probably weighed another 800 lbs. with my 2005 Beetle TDI. You can stop it but the real question is how fast and how far will it take you. Mine was short a short distance tow for 5 miles or so in the evening on less traveled roads. I wouldn't want to do it for any distance or very high speeds. What is your intended purpose for towing this thing? How far and how fast? By flat towed you mean on it's own wheels or up on a trailer completely?

10 miles at most. Towed like an RV would w/ no tongue weight. Pulled on all 4 of its own wheels and a tow bar.

10 miles shouldn't be an issue as long as traffic isn't an issue and you keep speeds fairly low and leave good distance for stopping IMHO.
