I have a VW T5.1 van with the 180 bhp CFCA engine, 2 litre TDI 4 motion. I have only just heard about and issue with the EGR cooler and wondered if anyone else has any information/experience?
As far as I can understand exhaust gasses inside the cooler are causing a chemical reaction with the alluminium body of the cooler, casing bits of metal to find their way into the crankcase oil then all through the engine. Most people don't notice till it's tot late, excessive oil use, smoke and so on.
Mine is still low mileage so no symptoms but my understanding is VW don't want to do anything until there are 'symptoms' and I am not willing to wait till the engine and turbo are full of metal.
Anyone heard of this, have any info?
