Chipped TDI Transmission Trouble?

Hi Guys,

I have a 115 BHP TDI Upsolute chipped to 143bhp (I'm told). Recently I became aware of an increase in the noise generated by the wheels of transmission. The noise is similar to the noise generated by a bad road surface of winter tyres. In an attempt to identify where the noise was coming from, I jacked up the left hand front wheel, started the car and engaged a gear. The noise was present with the car in this state, but I didn't think that it was coming from the wheel bearing. I conducted the same experiment with the right hand wheel lifted and found that no noise was generated /images/graemlins/confused.gif
My first suspicion was that I had a blown left hand front wheel bearing, but there is no increase in noise level when I turn right, as I thought would be the case if a left hand front bearing was defective.

Could the noise be coming from the differential?

Has anyone had any similar problems?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
