Well, I found it...and it was chewed by the roadants!

The outside temp sensor (G17) is in the lower front center radiator vent opening, on the drivers (left) side.

Once it is repaired, the computer /car needs to run for about 5-10 minutes, until the HVAC computer recognizes the system interlocks are met.
The dash temp came up immediately upon startup. Once I got ~2 miles down the road, the system started cooling the cabin like it did just before the rats got to it.

Dan,
I ran some logs and can email them to you, if you would like some reference data.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but figured this was the general thread for A5 A/C.

I recently bought a broken BRM (cam and lifters, go figure) and repaired it. Now that it is getting hot out I noticed very intermittent A/C performance. I hooked up my Vag Com and looked at the numbers and found 8 bars before starting it for 24 hours. 95ish °F outside. After starting and running for 5 or so minutes, it got up to 15 or so bar and blew out semi-cold air. Seems like it took some time to kick the compressor on.

After a bit of reading the data, the measuring block results blank out and say "no response from controller". It still blows out semi-cold air but the compressor also seems to make a bit of a squeal when I shut off the engine.

I think it needs a new compressor but I'm worried about the no response from the controller. I'd hate to replace the compressor and then find out it needs a A/C control module too.

Any thoughts or suggestions to check with the VCDS?

Read the thread on delayed AC and the otheres that are referenced to the thread.
The RVV valve gives lots of trouble.

A/C problem with 2006 (mk5) Jetta TDI

My A/C has had control valve issues in the past where it took 5-10 minutes for the cooling to start. This season it doesn’t work at all. I took it too a local A/C shop to have an RKX control valve installed. The shop reported the system to be leak free and there was enough pressure for the system to turn on but for some electrical reason the compressor was not activating. This shop suggested a visit to the dealer to correct what they felt was an electrical issue.
The dealer is an hour away so I pulled out my VCDS to try to sort out the issue. The scan shows no issues with the HVAC system. I tried to do the output test in the Engine Module for the cooling fans however I get the message “This output is not supported by control module”.
Any help much appreciated.

Unplug RCV.
Turn on engine and AC.
Check for voltage on two wires that went to RCV.

^^^^^^ i always tought the rcv control signal was a PWM pulse. Depending on the duty cycle of the signal is the amount of workload of the compressor.

Edit: nvm the signal is constant voltage variable current. Any decent dvm should pick up the presence of voltage

well I finally gave up and took it to an independent VW shop- their verdict- pressure is good but compressor is internally damaged (the breakaway has separated from the pulley) and the condenser fan is not working. therefore i need a compressor, condenser, drier, and the small condenser fan all replaced.

I have owned an 06 TDI BRM for about 6 months. The AC worked one time when my son drove it. For the first time, since I bought the car, the AC worked. I rushed home, ran VCDS without turning car off, and made these observations. All temperature sensors worked properly (verified with a temperaure probe) compressor was loading, the radiator fans were running high, and evaporator temperature was about 8 degrees C.
Then suddenly groups 2 and 3 on VCDS errored out. I quickly restarted them, but the compressor unloaded, radiator fans went to 20%, interior temperatures rose to ambient, and evap temperature did too. I did not get AC back, and have not since then.
I am about to change the RCV, But I recently changed my son's 2010 JETTA RCV. It worked awhile and then started acting up again. His group 2 and 3 also failed several times during diagnosis.
So the question is: Does what I experienced indicate a bad or failing AC Controller (J301)?

What Now: RCV replaced and>>>

I finally got around to replacing the RCV on my 06 BRM. Still a partial no-go. It went from 10 minutes to turn on to 5 minutes, or sometimes not at all.:)
So here what I did:
1. I found the circuit and did a voltage drop test on it to determine if I had a ground fault. I got 12.85 volts at the compressor, and 12.85 volts at the T4t plug next to the starter. This indicated to me that I had a good circuit.
2. I started the car and the AC with VCDS hooked up. All the temperatures read a little high. For example: it was 34°C outside, and the ducts read 38°C. Evaporator read 34°C.
3. I banged on the compressor with a hammer, thinking it was stuck: NO GO
4. I then hooked up the old RCV and let it hang. I jumpered the installed one to the battery. I had a good circuit because, I saw a little spark when I made the positive connection. Car is running, VCDS says the compressor should be on: NO GO.
So my question is: 1. Have I done all this right? 2. Does this indicate that the compressor is bad?
When the compressor comes on, it blows really cold air. However, I cannot get it to come on for about 10 minutes.
So what now?

Is your accessory/condensor fan coming on? Mine doesn't come on if idling but if I rev the engine or start driving then it comes on and the AC blows nice and cold. I believe that might be the fan control module that's on the radiator fan on the same assembly.

Also someone correct me if my understanding is off - the compressor runs all the time and the RCV modulates the amount of refrigerant that cycles around, right?

My fans did not come on until sometime after the high pressure value reached above 7.4 bar. Then they came on. The car was idling the entire time and was on jack stands.
it never did cool.
Today I drove the car in the rain, and at 74 degrees. The AC came on after about 10 minutes of driving. Seems random.
You are correct about the compressor: It turns all the time. The RCV actuates and diverts refrigerant internally. (don't know the mechanics of this)

I need to replace the condenser on my 2009 Jetta. What type of seal is there on the connection plate? I can't seem to find it in the online parts books.
Thanks...

Okay I have searched through countless threads between here and Audizine forums regarding my issue. I have a 2009 JSW.

I am getting the 00819 G65 Short to ground code.

My old senor has been replaced with this part FCP EURO - G65 Sensor - Rein

In VCDS I am getting a dash (-) where refrigerant pressure should be reading. My old sensor read 0.0 bar and I was getting the same 00819 code. I believe that sensor failed and all the refrigerant leaked through the connector which is why I replaced the sensor.

I can try clearing the code and it instantly comes back, after three or so tries to clear it It will stay cleared until I restart the car.

I have looked for wire loom issues, and I am about to check continuity to make sure there isn't some wire break in the harness.

ALso after replacement of my old switch I had the system evacuated and recharged at a shop for $80 so I know the system is sealed and charged.

I probably should have read reviews on this part since it does say in the reviews that one person received a dead unit on arrival.

Anyone else try this part and get similar results? More likely wiring issue or more likely defective unit?
