I just read an article in this week's AutoWorld Weekly, written by Ted Grozier, that basically puts the NB TDI on the same level with the second coming. Here's the title: "Rockin' with Rudolph: Fun? In a Diesel?"
Here's some quotes:
"If there's any vehicle that can change the diesel's bad rap, it's the VW New Beetle TDI."
"More than one member of our staff zipped off to lunch . . . without even realizing that there was diesel fuel, not gasoline, in the tank."
"And Zip this Beetle will."
"Leav[es] the base 2.0 liter gasser in the dust-but not in a cloud of black smoke."
"In practice it is significantly faster than its 10.6 0-60 time suggests." It's an unqualified pleasure to drive."
"...efficient, clean, and surprisingly strong engine."
The article is not on the internet yet. http://www.autoworldweekly.com
It may be soon, though.
By the way, it is the November 21 issue.
