I'm taking a car out to Utah for one of the guys on the site. He lives out there and bought a car from West Chester Pa. I happen to be working in the town he lives in and I'm about 30 minutes away from were he got the car so why not, Road Trip

I was wondering what is the longest road trip you've taken your car on?

We went to Fairbanks last year so this is going to be just a short hop. :D

Two round trips: 1600 miles to Prince Edward Island one way, 2100 one way to San Diego are the two biggest trips I took by car.

Storrs, CT to Myrtle Beach, SC. About 825 miles.

We drive to Corrolla, NC on the Outer Banks every year from MA. It's 650 - 670 miles, depending on the way we go around NYC.

In one of my TDis, the farthest has been Ma to Michigan.

If you want to count longest road trip: Last year we drove our minivan from Ma to Chicago, rented a Sprinter passenger van and drove to Yellowstone, on a 2 1/2 week odyssey that had us driving almost 6000 miles with 2 adults and 4 kids, 3 of whom were teenagers.

Long trip was looong and extremely indirect, but fun.

From Germantown, MD to Toledo, OH. Just shy of 450 miles each way. Did it several times within a month. Nice scenic drive.

about 31 hours at 70, that's just 15 hour days, and in a TDI at that, my trip to Anchorage was 3 days, easy to do in these cars.

Wouldn't you have to drive close to 20 hours/day to do that?
I think that guy wants his car delivered in one piece; take 3 days. :)
The GPS says 34 hrs I was looking to make Kansas city the first day that's 18hrs. Then I'll see how I feel. I'm leaving around 4:00 Sat AM so most of the drive is during day light hours. There is a 1 hr time change so I should be stopping around 9:00 pm local time. Besides the wife isn't with me so I can cut down the number of Pee breaks by at least 6 or 7. :D The cruze control will be set at 5 over the speed limit and just taking it as it comes.

I'll start out agin early Sunday AM and hope to make Salt Lake by Sunday evening again another 1 hr time change. We'll see how the old bones feel or if there is something I have to stop and see.

Used to have many. Now a Golf TSI.

It may be possible to get to KC in 18 hours but I would be so exhausted it would be hard for me to get up and do it again the next day. I did Denver to Philly in 3 days, with short stops to sightsee in Colorado and St. Louis. That was tiring even in a VW.

Good luck and please be careful. This isn't the Cannonball Run so I hope you stop each day before getting too tired.

One thing that has helped me is to plan a destination town each morning and call ahead to make a motel reservation. I based the town on the weather and how many stops I might make along the way. Having a goal made a long day seem more bearable knowing there was a bed waiting for me.

I made Omaha, 1250 miles the first day in 18 1/2hrs. Sitting in Salt Lake city right now waiting to meet up with Justin. Made the final 950 miles in 13 1/2 hrs.

75mph speed limits are a good thing. Set the cruise at 80 and go.

Looking forward to a good meal right tonight.

What would you guys have charged him to drive a car out here. I had to come here anyway so it wasn't a special trip.

(im 6'5) Then back 3 days later after the derby. I have done Philly to Penn state and back in the same day. Philly to cape may and back in same day. Both in my wifes 2011 siena. Did you do this alone? not sure I want to be in a car more than 7or 8 hrs in a day. I bet you saw some cool stuff. What routes did you take?

I ran in solo Don't mind the driving. As for the sightseeing it was somewhat bland. I've worked in the midwest so it was more of the same but if you've not done it, it's worth the trip. I ran the turnpike to 70 into indianapolis then 74 up to 80 then 80 all the way into Salt lake. I didn't want to take 80 toward Detroit or Chicago that was asking for problems.

I have a boat in Capemay so I do the down and back all the time.

I figure this fits the Eastern thread since the trip is to Pittsburgh.:D

This is my normal drive once at least once a year while going from my home in AZ to Rolla, Mo. and on to Pittsburgh.

From Mapquest it should take 20 hrs 44 mins / 1325 miles to get from my home in AZ to Rolla, Mo where I spend the night. We stop 3 times - coffee and fuel (5 minutes), sit down breakfast and fuel (25 minutes), and one more time for food and fuel (10 minutes). We leave about 2am and pull in to Rolla between about 10:30 - midnight local time depending on the time difference and weather. I set the cruise about 5 mph on average over the posted speed limit.

Total RT is about 4200 miles. If one counts the 200 - 600 mile side trips plus other driving during my normal 3-4 weeks away from AZ, my total trip mileage is generally around 6000 miles.

'10 Golf 2dr 6m, sold.
Hatfield, MA to Portland, OR last year for PDX-Fest 10.

Day 1: Left work at 3:30pm and stopped in Mentor, OH ~11pm. 547 miles.
Day 2: Mentor to Omaha, NE. 820 miles. Left Ohio ~7:30am. Made Omaha in about 11.5 hours, but with the time zone change it was shortly after 6pm.
Day 3: Omaha to Laramie, WY. 610 miles and about 9 hours. Stopped in Ft. Collins, CO for an early dinner at 5pm local.
Day 4: Laramie to Reno, NV: 900 miles. Stopped in Winnemuca for supper. Made it into Reno around 9pm local. Stayed at the Sands Hotel & Casino in a double-king room for $29.99. Put $20 in a quarter slot machine and won $120. So $20 bought me breakfast, filled the tank, paid for the hotel room, and left me with cash for lunch.
Day 5: Reno to San Fransisco. 220 miles, made one stop for lunch at In & Out Burger somewhere in the middle. Made it in about 3 hours. Wandered around SF for a while but didn't want to pay SF hotel prices so I continued north to Healdsburg, CA, about an hour north. Had dinner and some kick@ss beer at Bear Republic Brewing. (Walked to & from the brewpub from my motel.)
Day 6: Checked out the Sonoma area, did a winery tour, then headed north to Fortuna. Made a detour on Ca-Rt 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg. 220 miles, took my time and made a a few stops so it took probably 10 hours from start to finish.
Day 7: Fortuna to Portland, OR. 430 miles. Traffic was good the whole way, one stop for lunch made it in just over 7 days.
Stayed in Portland until Sunday then drove to Seattle. 175 miles, 3 hours.
Spent 2 days in Seattle.

Day 1 of the return: Portland to Mountain Home, ID. 530 miles, 8 hours.
Day 2R: Mt Home to Cody, WY via Jackson Hole. 500 miles. Probably 12 hours since I stopped for dinner in Jackson and stopped a few times in Yellowstone.
Day 3R: Cody to Chamberlin, SD. 645 with a side trip to Mount Rushmore. 12 hours with a stop for dinner and an hour at Mt. Rushmore. Crossed a time zone while crossing the Missouri River into Chamberlain.
Day 4R: Chamberlain to Joliet, Ill. 714 and 12 hours.
Day 5R: Joliet to Hatfield, MA. 930 miles and about 15 hours. It was a long day that wiped me out. I can't imagine driving 18 hours in a day.

All told I did just under 7,000 miles.

I have done Philly to Penn state and back in the same day. Philly to cape may and back in same day.
Oh! sorry. Longest one day trips!
Worcester, MA to Toronto, ON and back.

When you drive a B4 Passat TDI having a 1,000+ mile range, and you have to fill up twice from empty in one day, those are some fairly long trips.
When you cross TWO time zones in one day, that is a fairly long trip.
