Trunk latch not working

Hello I have a 2006 Jetta TDI.

I use my truck quite often and lately I have been noticing that I have to bang on the trunk for the mechanism to lock or engage.

Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution thank you?

Yes. I ended up replacing the latch mechanism. They wear out.

Had the issue with my 06 Golf. I ended up removing the trim taking the factory latch apart. I soaked it down in fluid film and got it to work sometimes. I ended up buying a new latch off amazon for around $75.

The only preventive measure I’ve heard of (and do my self) is lubricate really well every 6 months or so. But these are wear items ...
