how do you adjust torsion value? i had my car on Vagcom and it read that my torsion value was sitting around 2.9, which seemes high. Could this be a factor to why i am getting only 40 mpg (average)?

Thanks!

I read the first 5 pages of that link and just about everybody has a MKV, BRM, so I don't know if that would pertain to the OP's BEW. My torsion value was -0.5 the last time I checked it a few weeks ago.

The torsion value is a setting that applies to all PD motors. As a matter of fact, the cylinder head casting is the same, the valve lobe height is the same and the pilot pop timing is the same.

Setting the torsion value produces virtually the same effects for each PD. The variations between engines has to do with variables for the flywheel, crank sprocket, etc.

Here is another thread that discusses The Problem of Setting Torsion Value.
