Hello:
Just got our 2013 Jetta TDI back form dealer (35K) after a complete HPFP failure. I am reviewing the parts list and see the pump is listed as 03L-130-851-AX. I read somewhere that the "X" in the part number indicates a refurbished part.

1) Do VW or its dealers use refurbished parts?
2) Does the"X" indicate a refurbished part?
3) Should I care?

Thanks,

Kevin.

Yes, the X usually indicates a refurbished part. I wouldn't worry about a genuine VW refurbished part. I wouldn't trust something refurbished from a no name parts house.

There are just too many to list....
FWIW, lots of "X" badged reman parts are actually new. They just do this for the material retrieval typically.

The last several EA888 engines I have installed, including the most recent one last week, were 100% brand spanking new, never installed in anything, yet they carry the X too. Same goes for ALH injection pumps, which have been 100% new Bosch pumps for several years now.

Have you seen many HPFP's fail again after a full fuel system repair? Thanks...
