Stick Shift

Could someone explain how to remove the stock shift knob?
I have taken the boot off and see a metal ring and what looks like plastic.

Once you've unattached the trim piece that holds the boot down, simply invert the boot until the metal ring is exposed, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pry it open and remove the assembly. If you mangle the ring too badly, you may have to get a replacement or jimmy something else up. I re-used mine with the MOMO shift knob I installed.
