Looking for any information on the carbon sludge issue that the 1.9 TDI had.
On the new 2L TDI is this still an issue to be concerned about?

perhaps the DPF or turbo on late12/early13's have been less than reliable but I have never even heard of this EVER happening on the CR series TDI's, much less on the CKRA or CJAA engine

Intake sludge is a thing of the past! The days of intake manifolds being reduced to the size of a dime are long gone.

The biggest thing that has helped this issue is the advent of ULSD (Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel).

If that's what's holding you back from a new TDI purchase, rest easy.

Yep, ULSD has pretty much stopped that, and the Passat doesn't seem to suffer from the intercooler icing issues. So far, no known big issues with the Passat TDI.

Buy one. You'll love it.
