1Z (AHU) has a crank breather plastic tube bolted on the 'front' of the engine that leads to the puck on top of the valve cover.
ALH has an integral, cast in, passage for the crank gasses, a port through the head gasket, and a port in the head into the valve galley.

Let's just say that a real smart fella gave me the idea that it might work. So after thinking about it and realizing that folks have made 5 speed trannys turn into 6 speed, single turbo turns into compound, 90hp turns into 150.... almost anything is possible, just maybe not putting an alh head on a 1z block. Case closed.

Pretty sure it bolts up and all, same as running an ALH crank/block for a stroker 1.8T

There's just the issue of the larger rectangular oil drain on the ALH head, but you can easily enough TIG up the passage to the same size as the one on the 1Z block. Supposedly the gasoline guys run a special head gasket, or weld up the head to cover the rest of the hole. Never really looked into that side of things.

If you do run into drainback issues (farting oil out the breather) it's easy enough to add another breather in the side of the block, drill, NPT tap, bingo bango done.

Got an AHU/1Z head and an ALH head at the shop, both are kinda junk. Was toying with the 1Z head onto a 1.6D, but the 1.6 is still running so I don't really want to screw with it too much.
