Tried the sylvania zevo red 7443, then white which are brighter but shift color to an orange--red. Tried phillips 7443, totally poor. Haven't tried deautokey as they want 85 for 4 bulbs but i will if there is no other options. The innermost section of the hatch mounted portion is the rear fog which has a cap over the bulb opening. The bulb tray has contacts for a bulb so it could be used as additional p/l illumination, backup, or as a rear fog.

I scoured forum reviews for reverse LED bulbs, found some yorkum or somethings as well as hatch festoon bulb on amazon, so far so good.

Biggest thing is looking for CANBUS as they will include a bleeding resistor to prevent ghosting.

I wouldn't pay deautokey, the only thing the extra money is good for it their warranty, but at the $10-$15 amazon prices, I'll take my chance and order replacements as needed.

Also why do you want brighter tail lamps? better visibility? you can add a fog light real cheap too, should be same on the GSW.

DeAutoKey! Wait for a sale then buy them.

Warranty and customer service had been positive for me!

I bought a couple pairs of these - and they are more than bright enough.

I coded the car to have "Scandinavian" DRLs - which light up the taillights as well, and these "pop" even in sunlight. And the fact that they're red LEDs make the taillights a really rich red - much more so than the stock incandescent bulbs.

Thanks everyone, the Yeas seem to have it with deautokey. Like Scandinavian setting. I'm going to illuminate the innermost portion of the deck mounted section as the bulb tray has the contacts for an extra bulb. Is that standrd on the wagons?

Bulb tray has the contacts, but like someone above pointed out, you have to drill out a hole in the light/lens assembly itself.

As far as I know, it's standard (as above - empty bulb holder, but no hole for bulb to protrude into the light housing of the innermost position of the hatch assembly...and this is starting to sound borderline pornographic...) on both the wagons and Golf Golfs.

Opened up the capped fogs, installed bulbs in them, soldered jumpers to connect fogs to p/l circuit. The rear fogs, sylvania zevo bulbs in reverse lights, and the stop lights all work to provide decent back up lighting.
