adding water to the battery

Have an 06 jetta tdi. Just before the 06.5.
Thought I would top off the water in the battery, but don't see how to open it.

I saw a pic of someone elses and they had screw in caps for each cell, but mine does not have those.

battery fill

You have to peel back the black tape over cells then you can open each individual cell. Remember to use only distilled water!

Thanks. Couldn't see it last night. Found it this morning.
All of them look good.
But there was a lot of seepage under the tape.

I'd always thought our batteries were maintenance free? In the 5 years I had my factory battery, I did exactly nothing to it.

That is a choice. If you live in a moderate climate, you might get away with doing nothing.
I had a factory battery last me 8 years, because I added water every couple of years.
