Been absolutely years since I’ve been on here
But I’ve come back round to deisels again and although kids and life
Got in the way of cars, I now what’s looks like a turbo shaft on its way
Out and old habits die hard , so instantly I’m thinking upgrade
It’s a scirroco 2.0bkd engine round port I think ,
Much as it pains me to say but I dont want to afford clutch intercooler upgrades
So not going mental was thinking upgrade 17/22 from va turbo or similar I think that’s in it now
It’s mapped already running around 180bhp , thought 200-210 keeping tourque low and spread across the power band would keep clutch happy
So if I stick 17/22 hybrid in there I assume should be plug and play
Running probably programmed 18-22 psi already (but don’t know the map )
will this seem laggy on 17/22 until properly set up or be fine until I get time to set up right with 4 bar map

17/22 aren’t available like they use to be since Garrett stopped making them. Gtb turbos are better anyways and probably last longer than a 17/22.

Lots of hybrid options there. Think 4th generation vnt and ceramic ball
bearings, some with liquid cooling.

Cheers Guys there are still some 17/52 or 17/56 hybrids for sale I think
Just wanted plug and play dont intend to turn the scirroco into another one of my many projects , so don’t want the headache of gtb new downpipe and pipework as don’t have the time with my job now to do it myself , so as most mechanics look at me with dread if I ask them to fit non standard parts , thought off the shelf hybrid might be best
I agree gtd turbo brilliant spool for a big turbo
but actually kinda like old school Vnt on this scirroco must be getting old

Get in touch with Frans, they're still making the 17/22.

If and when my 17/22 bites the dust I'll be going with TDIMeister's
recommendation, or the GTD1756vrk

Every time I consider the replacement my '04 BEW will eventually need, I usually think, 'I will just settle for a VNT17'...and then it gets difficult as what it really deserves is a GTD1752VRK. Car is never going to get turned up past what a G60 Sachs will stand, but it is what I want...LOL
cheers,
Douglas

Thing is I had 300hp bmw with gtd 5th gen turbo in it and although it was really fast and reliable how can I say it without sounding like an idiot but it was too smooth , I actually had
The tuner put a map to over fuel just before the second turbo come in so I could feel the
Hit of boost , then soon as I got back into an old vnt system with a map absolutely loved the way it crudely give me a shove in the back coming on boost , must be just getting old
But quite honestly that’s why I’d rather stick with a vnt hybrid for bit more power than go gtb or gtd , course I don’t know what there like on these common rail tdi , but on the bmw
You had to engineer fun
