05 Passat 2.0, 5.9, 7.3, 6.6, 6.7...I'll run any and every diesel engine I can.
I can't believe that no one can rebuild these transmissionsites. Someone built it. Someone has to be able to rebuild it. Yet I've never been able to find this mythical person. I've owned this car since September 2015, still nothing. My "Trans Mechanic " says he's waiting on parts from Germany. I'll give him something for not quitting. "If" he fixes this, will he be the first? Or is there a shop in the mother land that can do these? Might of been easier to ship overseas? Am I the only one still trying to fix these? Nothing on tdi has been able to help. I hate to think that this is just going to be a parts car. It's too beautiful. HELP!

There are just too many to list....
It is not that they cannot be rebuilt, it is just that the cost to do it properly will be more than just buying one directly from Volkswagen (who gets them directly from ZF, the folks that built it in the first place).

There are some ZF specialists out there, too, but again their pricing is generally pretty close no matter what.

Keeping them serviced properly as ZF suggests seems to allow them to last a good long while, and while a torque converter failure is not uncommon, it does not mean the whole trans needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

I had mine rebuild by a local guy, he said he done several in the US and many in Europe. Well the first mistake he made he replaced the torque converted with a local rebuild. They don't last, after 12K it showed sines of slippage. So i purchased a new converted from a VW dealer (at a gold plated price). All was well for another 12 k miles. The transmission started trowing codes again and went in limped mode. That was the end of my patience, I took the auto transmission and replaced it with an five speed manual. I should have done it the first time the trany took a dump and would have saved money. I was surprised how easy it went and the car runs great with better mileage.
If you stay with the Auto I would go with a new one and make sure it come with a new torque converter made by Sachs

Errikson industries in Old Saybrook CT. He re-builds the valve body, torque converter right in house. I've dropped a few converters off to him in the past at like 8am and got a call by 3pm that I can pick it up. $250, looks like new when you get it, the converter that is. He also re-builds turbo's in house. No R&R, just a re-builder. He does units from all over the country
