Did the first ever autoscan using my newly aquired VCDS hex v2 and this is what i get (firstly, i assume I needed to have the engine running when i did the scan... was this correct? It seems like i'm missing a lot of info, though i'm not sure what it would be. was expecting a much longer list)

well one thing i just noticed is that it ran as chassis type 9M when it should've ran as 1J. not sure how much this changes things though.

Probably correct number of modules. As said above, select the correct chassis type, and rerun, since the earlier car modules do not auto select.

on my 2005.5 Jetta, the chassis auto selects, on my daughters 2002 Beetle, one had to select the correct chassis, and there were only about 5 or 6 modules for Beetle vs. about 10-15 for the Jetta.

9M will look for the same modules at the 1J plus one additional control module, address 09 - Central Electronics.

I'm not aware of any 1J or 9M chassis vehicle in the US market that ever came with a 09 - Central Electronics module. Maybe those "City" versions in Canada added the 09 - Central Electronics.

So long and short of it, while you did select the "wrong" chassis type, VCDS still scanned for every module and your Auto-Scan results will be the same if you do the 1J. When I worked at the dealer, I often times didn't bother to be sure I was on 1J or 9M when dealing with these types of cars... the end result was the same.

Thanks all! I"m really looking forward to learning more and being able to use VCDS better. There's so much that it can be overwhelming but thankfully you all here and at Ross-Tech have been super helpful.

Thanks again!
