I'm finding that my car is also VERY sensitive to temperature. Commuting (25 miles each way through mixed surburban traffic of highway and local roads) tanks have averaged as low as about 36 MPG in the coldest temps to as high as the mid-upper 40's in warmer temps.

Temps are warming up now. I'm sitting at almost 600 miles on this tank with a 1/4 tank left.

My computer read 50.1-50.3 on my trip. When I fueled up I did the math and it came out to 46.5mpg. I wonder if there is a way to adjust values in the MFI.
Using the VCDS tool you can adjust your mph and mpg readings to be more accurate. The 'how to' is posted here somewhere, I just couldn't find it in a hurry.

Thank you I will search. I do not currently own VCDS but I do plan to purchase it eventually.

Thanks

I'm driving a '12 6SM-just turned 43k miles. Switched to Sunoco last fall from generic brand and MPG's went back to where it used to be. This winter, though MPG's have dropped I'm achieving 54-55 MPG Hwy but city MPG's dropped to the mid 30's from the usual high 30's- low 40's.

No kidding you guys get some good numbers.

I'm at 37MPG lifetime, with somewhere in the neighborhood of 85%+ highway.

However, I'm only at about 6,000 miles lifetime, and I accelerate quickly (still breaking in) and drive 85-95 on the highway.

[EDIT: Paid better attention to my speeds since this post and taking into account the times where I'm going 75, average speed is probably closer to the low 80s. Would say the range where I spend 90%+ of my time is in the 75-90 range.]

Some here have reported a ~1mpg drop off for every ~1mph above 65. So driving 85-95mph probably explains your mileage. It just depends on what's more important to you--getting there fast, or getting better mileage on the way. 37mpg at 85-95mph is still very impressive.

The TDI is an amazing engine. My best is 52 mpg. The most amazing was last June on a trip from Omaha, NE to Mpls, MN then to Duluth Mn and back to Mpls which included city driving. 745 miles using 14.6 gallons for 51 mpg with 1/4 tank remaining.

The average over 38,000 miles is 41.9. I also have found that colder temps and/or strong winds negatively affect mpg. The added kicker is the engine's torque!

Wow, $4.29 for diesel? I filled up yesterday in College Station for $3.59, got 47 mpg for my first tankful and I was driving it like I stole it for break-in:D.

Did my longest highway run so far last night at 60 miles. 53.3 mpg indicated. These cars are definitely in their element out there.

All turned back to VW. Now a 2017 Hundai Tuscon. Not a single squalk in 10k miles.
120 miles westbound into a headwind and over the highest point on Rt 17 in western NY... 43 mpg. Same trip eastbound a bit later... 53 mpg.

Had to brag: personal best on my commute this morning--58.1 MPG on the computer. Considering that I'm in the Seattle area (hills and traffic), I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. Lifetime mileage now at 44.9 MPG, based on pen/paper as of last fill up.

Definitely lost some mpgs with stage 1.5. I used to do at least 600 miles with mostly city and some highway. Now I do about 550ish.

Maybe my foot slips on the gas pedal often :( Gotta see if the dealer will cover this under warranty lol

Well I just had my best tank yet at 47mpg. Broke 800 miles for the first time too. That's 50/50 city/highway. Nuts I tell ya.

2013 se 6mt with about 22k miles on the odometer. replaced turbo.

recently completed a rather long trip where i got to test mileage pretty extensively. just me, light luggage, extra boots, and 5 coolers with seedlings from northern minnesota to detroit, michigan, over 750 miles each way. easily a single tank of fuel with 150 miles range left over - that's a 900+mile cruising range.

through minnesota, wisconsin and the upper peninsula of michigan i moved along at 62mph (100kph) and returned 53-54 mpg. that's just crazy.

crossed the bridge and ran along at 72mph (116kph) on i-75. not a huge difference as i returned about 53.2 mpg. again that's just crazy.

return trip gave the same results suggesting prevailing winds or changes in elevation did not have much to do with the results.

as an aside the seats which i find to be a bit too stiff in short driving conditions really shined on the long haul. i did not have a sore butt and was not antsy to move about and find a more comfortable position. i like these seats for long drives.

I always snicker when I see the VW ad touting the 795 mile range of the TDI Passat. Thats an easy kill, even in the winter. I average 780 miles between fill ups, I'm confident that number will rise this summer, as the car seems to be loosening up a bit.

^ I guess a lot would depend upon your definition of winter and what your commute looks like

Here in Michigan, it was extremely cold. We set a record for the most snow recorded in history in the Metro detroit area. I was certainly not able to hit 800 mile tanks with my frigid city driving.

2/8/14----559.0 miles-- 17.10 gallons-- 32.7 mpg
1/25/14----632.0 miles-- 17.28 gallons-- 36.6 mpg
1/16/14----582.0 miles-- 17.80 gallons-- 32.7 mpg

My last 4 tanks are much better

5/25/14-- 682.0 miles--16.42g--41.5 mpg
5/10/14-- 727.0 miles--17.36g--41.9 mpg
4/25/14-- 702.0 miles--17.00g--41.3 mpg
4/8/14--626.0 miles--15.00g-- 41.7 mpg

I estimate i'm 80% City and 20% highway.

That is really not very bad! If you had a dsg in those conditions, your mix of driving and weather conditions you likely would be seeing ~5-7 mpg less.......
He does have a DSG.
