I have a 3.16 R&P from a passat, that I need to install in my ALH manual 02J, now if I were to buy a LSD for the manual O2J will it still fit in there or do I have to get a different LSD from other model?

no carrier break, they're straight helical gears not hypoids, so the flange is in the same position on all of them

3.16 fits in ALH trans. I’ve installed several.
Buy the LSD for the ALH and 3.16 R&P fits.
Really good mod for a strong engine, 1st gear gets usable, not too short.

There are aftermarket honda ring and pinion sets available, wonder if someone in china'd tool up and make some for the 02j? Could probably make some 3.00 or higher.
Ran the numbers long ago and a 2.70ish final drive would make the ratios on a dirt common 2.0 gas trans really good with the TDI. No idea if the pinion would fit in the space they give in the trans case though.

2.70-ish would be sweet.
.700 or even stock .756 5th would do well with that.
1st gear might pull stumps, but it's useless in normal driving :p

Figured I would try to nab one of these before they disappear completely.
I'd bite for a Chinese version if someone on Ebay pops up with one.

nah, 1st is the same in 2.0 gas and tdi, so it would make 1st actually useful instead of like on the TDI trans where you can easily ignore first.

Yes, longer gears overall.
1st will finally be useful and won't need to upshift so quickly when accelerating.
Had plans for an 02M but this is a good compromise

Ive built a few of those...if you add a taller 5th(not too tall) its a great option for those not wanting the 02M. You will have a similar ratio spread to the six speed overall

.681 is no longer made, .622 really tall and probably only good if you run a small turbo or looking for records on the salt flats.

.658 is good but maybe too tall combined with 3.16 R & P.

A .700 5th might be a better daily driver.
Really depends on what speeds you are at the majority of the time

so .658 5th gear that i believe is a .734 going at 80mph gives you 24k rpm with 15inch wheels,

I'm going to install 316 R&P with .658 and 1756vrk hopefully I can do 80 mph and drop rpm 22k or 23k rpm. I will report back and be installing 17inch wheels

ASD, DTA, EXB all have the 3.157 diff and 3.3 1st gear. Quite common in Europe.
I have the EXB with .658 5th gear in my lupo.
In my opinion you also need a longer 4th.
I use Audi A2 GRJ .9032 4th instead of EXB .09714.

ok so now the question is, , does the 3.16 R&P from a passat need a Peloquin LSD 02J or O2JB to mate up? Anybody knows? they sell both so which one?

their site says 02jB is for 04 and up and mentions the ring gear diameter being different

since you're using gears from an even older trans...
