Shell Rimula RM 10W40

This oil is not really expensive here, about the same price as a vw50501 oil.

Any thoughts?

Looks good to me, how long should it last in 60k a year mainly highway driven pd tdi from 2004 (no dpf) with high quality low sulphur diesel fuel?

Should be a good oil. Use it for however long you'd use a VW 505.01 oil.

Seriously, the description sounds really promising.

I wonder what the difference is between this Rimula and Rotella T6. Aside from the 10-40 vs 5-40 visc difference (which should not matter for us, especially south).

Seems both have overlapping specs..

The discription of Rotella T6 is almost the same as the Rimula R6, same pictures, same graphs...

Maybe it is the same stuff, or real close. In reading the Shell literature, maybe it is just different in the intended markets. Rotella for the States, Rimula for Euro.

Judging by viscosity and API ratings and other approval, it seems to be a totally different product. Besides, Rotella looks like to be better

I'd say that 20,000km to 25,000km is fine, depending on the severity of the duty cycle and the shape your fuel injectors are in. This oil is similar to an API/CJ-4 formulation in terms of additive treat levels, but the high temp viscometrics (13.0 Cst @ 100C), are more like a VW 505.01 oil. The FP of 250C/482F is excellent, so volatility should be very low....

The Motul 8100 X-clean 5w-40 (505.01, MB229.51) I switched to is slightly thicker than this Shell.

Rimula is Shell's premium off road oil. Rotella is their on road diesel oil.
