Hi,

I'm getting the p1161 code "Intake Air Temperature Sensor open/short to positive".

I noticed that the pictured sensor on my 1998 Jetta A3 had a broken connector. I fixed this last night with a connection I obtained from a junk yard but am still getting the code. I am wondering if this pictured sensor is indeed the one in question, or, if I have the wrong one.

If it's not it, then where is it? How would I fix this problem. I need to get this car emissions legal so I can drive it to work.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've never been under the hood of an A3 TDI, so I'm not at all sure. But in the A4's the IAT sensor is just after (on the top of) the intercooler. Not sure about the direction of the ducting in an A3, it looks totally opposite. Is that sensor just post IC?? Maybe the sensor is faulty, not just the connector.

I think the problem was that I did not clear the code. I got that done at Advance Autoparts last night and will see if it is gone.

Thanks. for the help.

I really appreciate it.
