I just changed the timing belt in my 2002 TDI ALH. I am in the process of setting the dynamic timing. I have block 9 at 104, which means my max value for block 2 should be about 73, according to the graph in the Bentley manual on PG 23-21. My values in block 2 are bouncing from an infrequent minimum of 69 to an infrequent maximum of 80 at idle. More commonly, it is bouncing between about 73 and 77, with the highs and lows occasionally. This is all at idle. Is this permissible? Or do I need to lower it some more?

Car sounds really good - better than when I bought it 7K miles ago. :)

Retard the timing a little bit. Use the built in tdi-timing graph next time for easier reading - just put the dot about halfway between the blue and green lines.

Went back to the car and checked it again. While writing my initial post, the number in block 9 fell to 99 and the number in block 2 dropped to bouncing at about 60. I also now have a check engine light, so I'm running the check engine light diagnostic... will report back.
