Broken timing belt shatters head, lifters, et.al. Any easy way to assess potential damage below the cylinders? Any good sources for recon head for Passat TDI?
Also, are you aware of the BS issues with that engine? That will add another ~$3k (less if you are up to the difficult task yourself) to whatever repair costs you are looking at from the TB failure. The pistons and rods are okay the majority of the time, but once the head is off it is advisable to measure piston protrusion to rule out bent rods.
