TDI replacement?

Our 2001 Jetta TDI is sneaking up on 400,000 miles now and we're starting to think about a replacement vehicle. Our two primary criteria would be equivalent fuel mileage with the power to tow a 1,000 pound camp trailer. Since a new VW diesel is now no longer an option, do any of you have any alternative suggestions?

A nearly new VW diesel is an option. Look around for dealers selling bought back cars if you want another VW diesel. It's possible to find them with less than 20K miles on them.

There possibly could be a new 2015 even lurking about. But a used buyback car would probably be your best chance. Long extended warranty comes with them as well. The dealers aren't allowed to put them on their own web sites IIRC, so you have to use a third party search or call them directly.

Listed as new, search engine pulled it up that way. Maybe it was a dealer driven car. I have the question sent to them already. Sorry!

they responded they weren't responsible for the ad on cars.com.

Thanks for the info, are there any particular year(s) of the Jetta TDI that one should avoid?

There are just too many to list....
2000-2003 is probably the best all around car. They'll last indefinitely if cared for properly, and parts sources don't dry up.
