VNT actuator

I have a 2004 passsat tdi. All the pictures and videos I see show the actuator mounted to the side but mine is on the top. The rod is stuck and I’m about to order a new one. A local mechanic has worked on the car in the past for limp mode issues, and I’m wondering if it is just installed wrong. Thanks

That's where it's supposed to be.

Have you checked it with a vacuum pump? It's supposed to start moving around 4" and fully open around 18"

Ok - thanks I don’t have a vacuum pump, but I guess I’ll get one this week. I thought I should be able to move the rod up and down with my fingers.

Be careful not to get any dirt on that side of the air filter if you are planning to reuse it.
