The 2018 model year started,Why are the TDI values tanking??
What do you base this on? A friend is actively looking for a specific TDI (GSW SEL, Red), and every one she calls on has been sold. Frequently cars I click on on Autotrader or Cars.com are no longer available. I think there are a lot on the market, and I think a lot are selling. I'm not hearing of any bargain basement prices, either. There are literally hundreds of them on all auction sites. VW is taking any offer they can get. Market is flooded.
That is merely phase 2 of the already-announced two-part fix for those cars. It is only to address some remaining on-board-diagnostics issues. Catalyst replacement is indeed part of it (and this is nothing new! it's been known since the fix for those cars was announced) but this is only to ensure emissions compliance for the full 150,000 mile durability period. It should not have any effect on the way the car operates ... and it resets the warranty.I was interested in a 2015 Jetta TDi, but after reading comments, I don't think I want the "fixed" car that wasn't broken. And I heard a second recall is coming to replace CATS. That may totally ruin the car.
The used ones were selling for $3-$5k higher than the fixed new ones (with $8k off deal I got) back in May when I purchased mine. I would assume they haven’t fallen off a cliff since.
There is certainly more competition now and some swear-off-VW folks due to DieselGate that may have temporarily suppressed prices, but let’s face it: diesels last. And 2015 was last year for the TDI. I think these cars will hold their value very well.
