Car is a 2000 Golf, 305k miles, original trans.
The seals on the output flanges leak, I replaced them about 40k mi ago but they started leaking again after 4-5k.
It’s not a bad leak, but it makes an absolute mess of the trans case, etc.
My guess is the output bearings are a little sloppy or the seal surface on the flanges is worn out.
So couple questions
1- Can I take the trans apart and install new output bearings without having to deal with shims, bearing preload, etc? Trans is already out of the car for a clutch job.
2- Anyone ever try a speedi sleeve on the output flanges? Certainly a lot less $$ then new flanges or buying a used trans.
Thanks in advance for anyone’s thoughts and feedback.
