Howdy. I would have signed on years ago, when I first got a Golf 3 AAZ in 2012. My Internet alias, ****blast, was not accepted back then. I'm a physician by training, having turned speculant, and a hobbyist fixing my own car. A car is a complex, expensive thing to fix, and doing it oneself makes for a special kind of joy. A good forum makes that easier.

VW Vento TDI / STD / 2018
Greetings from Tecate Baja California, Mexico.

After 20 years driving gasoline cars, the gas price made me moved to diesel. I got a Vento Comfortline TDI / 2018 / Standard transmission. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the diesel engine torque and mileage per gallon; so far so god and I don't regret with my acquisition.

2002 VW Golf TDI Manual 5 Speed
Hi everyone I just stumbled into this TDI world recently after finding what ended up being a great deal on a 2002 Golf TDI 5 speed with only 133,000 miles! Everyone has already given me invaluable information on the forums and I'll be happy to contribute any way I can.

New resident to Oakland, CA and would be greatly interested in meeting others in the Bay Area since I don't have the space or tools to work on anything myself.

Hey all,

I found the sight while shopping for a TDI and researching some. I have yet to make a purchase. Would love a MK4 2d Golf or a Jetta wagon but a deal on a sedan would also work as long as its a MT. I would even consider a MK5 if the price is right. Sadly finding one in western SoDak is proving tricky. Im figuring on a trip into CO as selection is far better. I love my LS400 but I miss shifting and have always wanted a TDI. Thanks for the great sight and all the valuable info. I look forward to joining the ranks.

Hi folks!

I'm ' ' that close to buying a 2006 Jetta, with a 5 sp. I'm going to check it out tonight, looks good on paper though. If the car is what they're advertising I'll buy it this week. I did ask about the clutch and timing belt and rear seal... they're doing the timing belt before delivery, and the rest were done within the past 20k miles.

Pics and further info when I know more!

Ask questions about the timing belt job. Get parts list. We see a lot of this maintenance being done improperly.

New here. Thanks for the site. Mucho info. No start, start . Don't understand?

Hello Fellas,
Thanks for all the info.
03 Jetta ALH. Left me stranded at work with no dash lights. Got a jump went home. Battery was fairly new but didn't discount bad. Got home put on charger and tested all good next day. Next day car started.
Next day car turns over hard but no start. Now I have all lights including glow plug. Started looking at forums. Ordered relay 109. Crack open injectors and cranked but not seeing diesel shooting out. Back to forum.
Install really 109. Hard fast turnovers but no start. Go back to forum. Check intake solenoid for stuck. Its open. Run a jumper from battery to solenoid on injection pump. It clicks. Cranked with jumper it starts. Removed jumper and it starts.
Car finally starts but I don't know what I did to fix it? I would like to understand what I did or what else might be going on. Can you guys please give me some ideas?

So after driving the wheels off my 2003 New Beetle convertible I bought a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen last year, it was a former delivery vehicle with high mileage, cloth seats and not neccessarily the most pristine of condition but I wanted a Sportwagen and it fit the bill despite not being a TDI. On a fluke I went with my chick to a VW dealer last week as she wanted to trade her 2014 Beetle Turbo for a 2018 Tiguan (super nice SUV BTW) and I spoke with our sales guy who asked what I drove, told the story and he related they had a 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI with 13k on it. It really does not appear to ever have a human in it ever.
I am really loving the power and MPG of the TDI not to mention all the upgrades. You can see new one on left and old one on right.

Thanks, I'm very confident that the dealer will get it done, they are Used VW/Audi and select Other makes specialists They've been at it for 35 years, so I'm not concerned about them getting it 'right.' If I were, I would Not be dealing with them.

I am Chris and have a 2005.5 Jetta TDI. Bought it brand new and am about to hit 175K miles. Have an issue on the drivers door with wiring. Need to find a diagram that shows what wires are what. Anyone have any ideas? Will also start looking in the threads. Thanks in advance.

Try your local library for a Bentley manual, it will have wiring diagrams in the back. Or buy one, they are pricey.

2005 Passat Wagon 5sp swap
Howdy! I'm a Japanese auto mechanic, though I've been in the aftermarket world before that an awesome opportunity came up. Got a 2005 passat wagon with a dead transmission and everything needed for a 5 speed swap in once place. This past Saturday my buddy swapped everything over and now a proud TDI owner. I love this car! So cheers! Looking forward too meeting some east coast people at some point!

First time on forum and not sure how to post things but here goes.
I have a 2002 Jetta, 1.9 Diesel engine, 160K miles and looking to sell. The A/C has a leak and a few other issues that need fixed but a good car. In Texas so no A/C is not good. Daughter was driving the car, I drove it before that, and she needed transportation to get her back and forth to school. We got her another car and this Jetta is sitting right now. I figured that this would be a good place to start as I know that it could possibly find a good home from someone on this forum. .

I've been on the forum a few months, bought a 2010 Golf gas engine,
but now I own a "new" TDI.

I've had issues, still trying to get it registered here in Texas
(purchsed in August GA, trucked to Texas from Flagstaff AZ)
dead battery, low battery, broken (by dealer mechanic) visor and A-piller clips, etc..

But I really like this other Golf...

Hi Folks,
I have been on TDI club forums for a long time but never a member until recently.
I decided to buy a 2005 Passat wagon that has transmission issues. I got it pretty cheap and intend on doing the 5 speed manual swap.
I am a Diesel and Heavy equipment mechanic by trade and have been turning wrench for almost three decades. Love Diesels and own three of them.

T25 Bay with Golf AHU
VW T25 with AHU conversion project

Bought a unfinished T25 (T3) with AHU Tdi fitted but not running.
Found previous owner had just bolted the engine to original gearbox/clutch so after thinking was seized due to standing was relieved to find was just interferance between bellhousing and pressure plate.

Now after buying correct diesel T25 flywheel and clutch have engine turning over, fitted wiring harness after pruning it down to engine only stuff but although had immobiliser deleated didnt start (bled filter using small pump to suck from container until diesel flowed out of return pipe), checked and didnt have 12v at fuel shut off valve, wire fed from ecu on pin 53 and continuity fine from socket to valve so think ecu (ecm) is faulty, have ordered another via E-Bay so when get it will try again (told even without immobiliser disabled should still start but will cut out after couple of seconds)

Hopefully on latter stages of project (engine running wise at least)

Peter.

My TDI charge (battery icon) light turns on with ignition; and turns off after ignition but charging meter at battery indicates (lowers with each crank or lights on) no charge, is this significant to suspect alternator malfunction and can I isolate the regulator?

Hey, new to the forum but not VW's.
just bought a 1999 VW TDI Beetle with 35,000 original miles.
yep, 35,000 original mile barn find car.
the guy I bought it from was Army retired and had 8 cars in his barn (one was a 2002 Jetta TDI) but was sold before i got there. all cars were low miles.
he is 72 years old and moving south so the cars had to go.
the craigslist ad was great, "first one here with $6000 cash gets it"
I was first and bought it, (his phone kept ringing the whole time i was there) not a scratch on it even had the original tires on it!
those tires are dry looking so i replaced them first, it needed a battery too.
I've run two tanks of diesel kleen though it and it purrs like a kitten.
got a few plans in mind so i'll be keeping tabs. thanks for a great forum.

Hello, I am a newbie here.
Been trolling this sight for over a month, learned a LOT
And just bought my first tdi, a 2004 Golf, 73k on it.
Pretty cool.

Really confusing keeping everything straight as I learned, with the different years, engines, transmissions, inherant problems. When I got to the travelling antifreeze or whatever you call it I thought about just slitting my wrists!!!

Anyway, thanks for all of your insight and knowledge. Don't know HOW I didn't discover these gems long ago.

2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI
Newbie (not really) from Hawaii.

Had to create a new account because I couldn't remember my old password.

Anyways, this is my third TDI, (2003 Jetta Wagon, 2003 Jetta Sedan and currently 2015 Golf Sportwagen), and I'm curious to know if it is possible to make this 2015 Golf Sportwagen run on biodiesel.

I'm aware that VW doesn't seem to think so and most people who own one also know you shouldn't. I get all of that, so far I'm running only regular diesel on it (I'm just under 4k).

This is one of the TDI's that were part of this last scandal, taken out of the market and recently were put back on the floor for sale.

Got a really good deal on it, I'm super stoked on how it drives and feels, but I'd also love to later down the line be able to do some mods that might make it biodiesel friendly.

Also how can I break this engine properly? I never had the chance to buy a brand new TDI like this and I drive for Uber/Lyft as a part time gig. Any tips on how to improve my gas mileage while properly breaking this bad boy in?

Thank you all for your time in reading and replying to this message,

The extremely high pressures that the cr engine requires along with the post-injections make running anything more than B-10 to B-20 a bad idea if you want this engine to last....do some searching on the site from fall 2008 on and you will find all of this talked about with all of your answers answered....good luck & enjoy your new toy!

New to the board. Just bought a 2015 Sportwagen TDI with only 8,000 miles. It's a Certified Used model so I have a warranty til 2020. First VW I've owned since a 1978 Scirocco I drove in the late '80s!

I like doing the basic maintenance on my cars such as oil changes, filters, etc. Are these cars pretty straightforward to work on?

Although I live in not-super-cold MD, I like having a block heater in the winter time. I live on a busy street and start the car for less than a minute before I may have to punch it to merge in. I'd hate to do that to the little diesel. I had a block heater on my previous Subaru and loved it. I checked out FrostHeater and it looks a little complicated and WAY beyond my needs here in MD. I was just thinking a small oil pan heater pad would suffice. Thoughts?

Aside from these initial questions, I look forward to exploring the forums as I get to know this new (to me) TDI. Compared to my Subaru's turbo 4 banger that required premium fuel, I'm loving the 50 mpg average on cheaper diesel fuel!

Hello All, Atlas here. Nice to meet you all. I will be very honest....I know nothing really of the TDI's. I bought this vehicle as my family has used them and are reliable/fuel efficient.

2015 VW Jetta TDI 2.0 - DSG Transmission/Sport Mode.

Can anyone tell me what DSG is? I presume it is just getting the gear up to speed before it shifts so it is faster and smoother shifting; am I incorrect on this?

Are there any additives I should be using to help keep my vw in good working order? i get somewhere between 4.9 L/100km - 5.5 L/100Km. Which is pretty damn good. I drove an hour out of city and back and used 1/16th of my tank.

P047A and P0087 codes Fuel pressure control valve

I have know idea how this site works, so i'm giving it a try. The 2 codes above is what I'm receiving. I have been looking thru the site and below sounds like what could be the problem, but there sounds like there could be others also.

I have a 2011 TDI wagon and I'm having the glow plug flashing light with power loose and also the engine light is on. Its happening about every 60 miles and at first I could pull over and turn off and right back on and keep going, but Saturday it took an hr before it would start. Has anyone had this problem with 2011 and is it the same HPFP, with the same fuel pressure control valve Part# 0928400706? Thanks for the help or any starting points to get me down the road!! I hate being stuck on the freeway so I have parked it until I can hopefully fix the problem.

Hi everyone! I am known around the VW world as Alijonny, my real name is Ali. I finally got my feet wet in the TDI world!
On Sunday I picked up a quarter million mile rust free 03 Golf GLS ALH TDi 4d/5s. looks like it was a cared for car in the first 9 years, then became the PO's car from 2012 til sunday. He replaced the TDi with a 2ng gen Prius (lol).
The car build sheet is like this:

X9A = National sales program USA
B0D = Component parts set, complying with vehicle type for USA (without California), various parts
C3H = Cast alloy wheels 6J x 15 "A-Light", offset 38 (1J0 601 025 P)
G0C = 5-speed manual transmission
H5B = All-weather tires 195/65 R15 H (NAR)
J0R = Battery 380 A (80 Ah)
MD1 = 4-cyl. turbo diesel eng. 1.9 L/66 kW TDIbase engine is T0W/T0E
Q2J = Comfort front seats
L09 = Suspension range 09 installation control only, no requirement forecast
1AC = Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
1MP = Steering wheel for air bag system
5RR = Right exterior mirror: convex (US)
5SH = Left exterior mirror: flat (US)
T0W = 4-cylinder diesel engine 1.9 L unit 038.B
3S0 = Without roof rails/roof load rack
4UB = Air bag for NAR
0G4 = Cable gearshift
C3H = Cast alloy wheels 6J x 15 "A-Light", offset 38 (1J0 601 025 P)
8GL = Alternator 120 A
9VG = Sound system "Monsoon"
1ZP = Disc brakes, front (Geomet D)

the alloy wheels are long gone, all I have are steelies (which is okay for now...)
the car is Indigo Blue pearl with black cloth interior.
I purchased the car in Middle of nowhere, Indiana and drove it back to Chicago with no hiccups. Looks like a total highway machine, I just had a new windshield installed because of the terrible pitting on it. Virginia car, no rust. I couldn't be more happy about that fact. anyway, It has typical tdi non-enthusiast owner lack of maintenance, and I plan to bring it up to snuff real quick.

that's all for now. Great site! I plan to be around!
