Beats me, but will never happen again.
Just couldn't figure that a thumping noise so loud would be the brakes. I guess the noise was actually from the slack in the trasmission unloading each time the brake disk turned past the rusty spot.
Live and learn, one more under the belt.

Glad to hear you got it solved. That saved a lot of trouble and possible shipping another transmission, only to possibly have a repeat performance.
