I put Akebono pads on the front of my 2005 VW Passat TDI after seeing recommendations for this pad on this site. Right after, I started hearing a clunk when I applied the brakes. All the time. Drove me nuts. The Akebono part # was EUR840. Went back and had the pad changed out with a NAPA pad. No more clunking. Everyone selling the Akebonos say they fit my particular VW, but they clearly don't. Just wanted to warn you that you may to avoid this pad. I don't know why some people can use them, but they didn't fit my TDI.

Sometimes there's anti rattle shims that have been thrown out during the cars life so the pads would have fitted fine with them. People remove them due to pads sticking but it's usually the carrier needing a clean.

Not sure they had them but it might be a possible reason.

I have had the Akebono pads on our Passat without clunking or any other problems, for over 20K miles.

80k on mine Akebono's. No clunking, no issues installing, great product.

I suspect 'finger trouble' by your mechanic, sorry.

Akebono brake pads are excellent quality.

They are Made in the U.S.A.

They are the OEM supplier to Honda / Acura.

Sounds like whomever installed your brake pads did so incorrectly.

Did they forget to use the anti-rattle shims ?

Did they coat the inside of the pad with never seeze ?

Did they use the silicone based high grade lube on the pins ?

Did they clean the slide pins ?

Did they use a torque wrench and hand torque everything when they re-assembled the brakes, ( calipers, rotors, wheels ) ?

Did you call Akebono's customer service / tech line and ask a few questions ?

We have used Akebono pads for the last 10-12 years on multiple makes and models and they are excellent quality brake pads !

It is very hard to find brake pads or brake parts that are Made in the U.S.A; I like supporting U.S. manufactured goods and services whenever possible.

Chinese brake parts just do not sit well with me.
