1002 miles 15.99 gallons = 62.7 mpUSg
First 1000 mile tank for me of 2006!

That’s over 22 days.
14.5 days I drove my normal commute, total 62 miles, largely (90%) on the Highway #1 Trans Canada, speed limit 56 mph.
1 day I drove a shorter commute, total 40 miles.
The other days are weekends, and one public holiday.
I ran some errands to the grocery, hardware stores, and we attended some garage sales.
We visited with friends.
We went to the Symphony (Wagner, Mozart, Rimsky Korsakov)
Total cold starts I estimate at 41, which at 2milesworth per cold start, cost me quite a bit! I must make more use of the wife's truck for my errands!
Normally I drive by myself, early in the am, and pm, before the traffic build up.
Terrain is undulating – hilly. I drive to leverage the hills.
When the car is rolling the engine is always operating.
Tire pressures are up in the 40’s.
Tires are Michelin Energy MXV4 S8.
Fuel is Mohawk DieselMax, with the Howes and Racor additives.
Engine oil is Esso XD3, 0W30.
There’s 92,000 miles on the Odometer.

cheers.

Didn't hit the low fuel light but happened to be near my favorite fueling location.
My fuel light must come on early then, I usually get it around 14.4 gallons to fill up.

First entry, but I'm keeping track so I figured I might as well post it. I'm not sure how accurate the gallons added were, I'm fueling form a supply company with old style rolling mechanical gauges. Hopefully after an intake cleaning, oil change, fuel filter change and upgrade to Sprints I'll do better on my next tank.

I've been inspired mostly by this forum to take a plunge into the VW diesel world. I hope you don't mind me participating even though I have a lowly IDI instead of a TDI. All these miles were on a trip from Houston to Reno driving 60-70mph, with speeds and distances all measured via GPS. I am very happy with the 49.01 MPG average, and am looking forward to the big 5-0.

Not at all. The more the merrier. We've had motorcycles, hybrids, lawn mowers, and even a diesel Cadillac from 20 years ago in this competition.

~0-100 miles trips to work/home
~100-700 miles - Trip to Iowa with A/C on for 2/3 of trip -driving indicated speed limits (one 5 mile 100 mph trip with A/C on - was late for meeting)
~700-1013 miles - trips to work/home/downtown/work/errands etc - 10 miles of stop/go traffic jams

Low fuel light came on once at 897.7 miles while inching my way up a metered on ramp that was pretty steep/sharp up hill right hand curve. Once I got a few miles down the interstate (at 904.1 miles) I noticed that it had gone out again. Drove to my destination (~914 miles on trip odo) stayed off. Started up car again to drive home and about a mile later (915.1) the low fuel chime/light went off/on and stayed on. I've never had the light reset itself without adding fuel. Anyone else have this happen?

well done on the mpg's.

Yes I have this happen quite often, the fuel light comes on when going up an 8% hill, then goes out when I've crested the hill. It then comes on again a few miles later.
I guess the fuel level sensor is sensitive to uphills. I've also noticed the fuel gauge reads low when going uphill, and high when going downhill.

cheers.

Right right, I feel good about my tank on long downhills and get scared on the uphills. Also, I've noticed that it often takes something like 10 minutes for the needle to rise to the proper position once the car is started. Often, if I'm close-ish to empty and turn the car off, I'll get the DING! when I turn the car on, but then have the light turn off sometime later not to come back on for another 50 miles or so.

Are you venting? I have found the low fuel light to come on about 15.1, 15.2 range. Although I think every sensor is located in a slightly different place.

Yep venting right to the end of the filler neck.
When I fill it takes in the 54.7 - 55 litre range, which is 14.45 - 14.55 gallon range.

Mine must be calibrated a bit different, or located in a slightly different spot like you said.

So given a 17 gallon tank, I should have 2 usable gallons left, maybe 2.5, giving a 112.5 mile range at 45mpg. Woah, ok, more fuel in there than I thought. I hope!

ah, good... If I can keep up my end I may have a chance! I haven't gotten into the 70s yet with my car.

(btw, that is meant as a complement. You're doing better than any other civic I've ever read about.)

160 miles of trips to work/home, remaining miles trip to Green Bay/back at 65 MPH indicated with A/C on because it was 94 F. Filled up because GF is taking it to Fort Wayne on Monday:eek: instead of her 20 mpg Jeep Cherokee 4.0L. Will be interesting to see how it does on MPG for her. She drove it while we went out to get fuel and misc errands, definately does not drive for MPG (boost gauge spent a lot of time >10 psi) so she is definately heavier on the throttle than I am. Hope she does not hurt me too bad for the month.

Oh, right on! GF and WIFE can be the single worst thing to happen to a good tank. My little commuter car is parked way out back on the property where she doesn't want to walk to....while I keep her vehicle gassed & clean right handy in the driveway.

It works most of the time!
(Her vehicle is a Grand Caravan. I'd rather she burn the fuel than mess with mine. Pretty bad I think!)

MPG: 48

I filled up with 12 gallons of D2 then proceeded to drive 225 miles to work and school etc. went to the local biodiesel coop last weekend and filled with 6 gallons of B100. commute everyday last week and all that, drove to charlotte this weekend and back. ended up with 642 miles out of a full tank. I'm impressed considering i was driving upwards of 85-90 mph at a few points probably averaging somewhere between 75-80 mph for the whole 300+ mile trip. Oh yeah and the A/C was going a lot of that time. What would happen if i tried to get good mileage :)
