This should prove to be a good central place to see what works, what doesn't and by how much. There are different sections for the different engine types. Please upload in the correct area with the following info:
Event Location:
Event Date:
Car Shown:
and most important, in "Photo Description", enter in the mods on your car when the dynos or drag events took place and any other relevant info (Temperature? Altitude? Tranmission? etc).

Hopefully this will prove to be a quick and good reference for all. Let me know if we need additional info there.

Enjoy,

Fred

One correction to the list: the V6 tdi (AFB,AKN) in the Passat is _not_ a PD.

You should also post the type or manufacturer of the dyno since some dynos (like dynojet and other inertia dynos) give inflated numbers because they calculate the torque rather then measure it like a land and sea or a mustang dyno (brake dynos) so just remember that when looking at some dyno sheets because they can be as far off as 30%

You are correct about posting the type of Dyno used... as for the rest of the statement, being the devils advocate, maybe the land/sea/Mustang dynos could deflate the numbers by up to 30%... If you talk with any of the companies, their way is right (inertia, eddy current, mechanical brake)... We are not here to argue those implications, please take that up with the dyno manufacturers. TDIClub is just providing space to post individuals dyno information.

All I am saying is compare apples to apples thats all. I have just seen dyno sheets that say that a stock car has more power to the wheels then it has at the crank from the factory. I know that most cars are underrated but not that much.

It really is that much. It's pretty well know that the North American TDI engines have wheel numbers very close to the rated crank numbers.

All of the stock TDI dynos I've seen show 86-93 HP or so.
Pretty close to the rated 90HP at the crank.
Same is true with the 1.8T, which typically dynoes between 166 (some VWvortex dynoes) and 173 (Sport Compact Car Dyno) HP at the wheels for a "180HP" motor. Unconfirmed rumor has it that they rate the crank # as the power level in the worst case after your intercooler is heatsoaked.

Sport compact uses a dynojet and 180 hp VW's have about 140 to the wheels. You are right though those are worst case numbers with the heatsoak but you still HAVE to lose power through the transmission, driveshafts and wheels. It is simple physics.

In your experience where do the 25-30 TDIs you've dynoed show, relative to rated HP?

Of course you loose HP when going to the wheels.
Its just that the crank HP you start with is higher than VW says for turbo cars.

..and Gary, I'm gunning for you. Tonight I ran a 15.88@86.2MPH Once I install my 11mm pump and LSD I should be <15.5

I'll dyno soon if I can find a good one in the area.

look at my dyno-plot.

it´s from my corrado tdi. engine was a 110hp tdi with some "small" modifications.

new vmax was >250 km/h@4800rpm

/images/graemlins/wink.gif

unfortunatley i had some boost-problems.
this test was made with only 1.4bar boost.
normally i have 1.6bar. this should beat the 200hp.
i post the new dyno-plot if i had removed my boost-problem.

MikeZ,

It would be interesting to see a log of block 011 to see what the boost is doing at that point...

Could it be clutch slip ?

Could it be wheel spin ?

Garry i din't log the run ...

but clutch slip could explain ..

to much torque to fast will make te clutch to slip ..

Thank you next time i will log the info ...

Mike has the VR6 clutch set up and it is relatively new. Also wheel slip is not an issue because the Dyno we used is a Bolt on. They remove your wheels and bolt on to the axels. It is also a 4 wheel drive Dyno, many Audi Quattros are modified and tested there as well as WRX's /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Can anyone tell me where to hook up the induction pick-up to get the signal for the Dyno. Was trying to use a DynoJet on Sat. and we could not get the signal. Tried to put it on the wire going to the speed sensor, but not signal. Thanks for any help. Would like to post some numbers too.
