All right, let me get this straight. If I buy my neighbour's 2012 A3 TDI, with 67000 miles, I can later sell the car to VW? The buyback will be around 24227, if I have calculated correctly. That sounds too good to be true. He just bought a Tesla, and is asking 13000 for the Audi.

Yes. If you're feeling like a particularly good neighbor, you might let him know about the buyback instead.

It depends on options, which I don't know, but I'm getting closer to $21k. The base buyback amount is about $24k, and the base "fix" amount is $6500. Subtract half of the "fix" amount from the buyback amount, and that's what you get as a post-9/18/15 buyer (plus a share of the Eligible Seller pool, but we have no idea what that will be).

By the time you register it, pay sales tax on it, and income tax on the profit, I don't think you'd make more than a couple thousand dollars.

You have to lay out $13K for a few months, too.

Barring EXACT #'s, add sales tax (10%) and add $100 for registration and he's out what, $14,400? That's closer to $10K profit if his buyback estimate was done correctly. Where else you gonna make that kind of money?

That was my math as well. Sales tax is 6.0% here in NEPA. Very tempting.

My guess is that titled only.Although the law says a car needs to have plates
if kept on your property.
I wondered the same. The docs say "Registered owner". Is that VW Registered or DMV Registered as in Registration?

Can anyone confirm that car bought from vw dealer post 6/28 will be eligible for full buy back and/or restitution?. Some say yes some say no. Any final verdict? There are some good deal around but im not so sure and I don't want to end up with two cars I cant sell back.

There is no issue, generally, for cars bought from a VW dealer after 6/28. There is a possible issue for cars that were owned by a VW dealer on 6/28. If the car was traded in or otherwise sold to the dealer after 6/28, go for it--nothing comes anywhere close to causing an issue with that.

For cars owned by a VW dealer on 6/28, I haven't seen any final/official answer, and I don't think we will. It's possible that it will be addressed at the 10/18 hearing, and/or the agreements will be tweaked to clarify this situation (because it otherwise would be a very odd exclusion with no readily-apparent rational reason), but otherwise the only definite answer would be when we start selling them back.

Do we need to have the cars registered, or just tilted in our name?
Look up the documents needed to submit prior to buyback. Yes it has to be registered.

And if it's registered, it has to be insured in most all states. If you're financing the amount, almost all lenders will require full coverage as well. Only liability should be fine if you're paying cash however. All the fees certainly add up.

If you do not buy the car, please PM me, I work near NE PA and have been in search of a clean TDI to replace my current.

Earnestly I can't tell which register they are referring to. DMV or VW?
What supporting documents are needed to make a claim?

• Vehicle registration (your state DMV)
• Vehicle title (if no lien)
• Lender information and financial consent form (if there is a lien)
• Driver’s license
• Name of preferred dealership

Ended up telling the neighbour about the buyback. So it's gone. But I have found a mint 2012 Passat with 75000 miles, 30.1 grams of ash in the DPF, dealer maintained. Think this is my next ride, although I am not sure about DSG.

I just bought my 2011 July 8th and my payout will be around $15,900. That's almost 6k profit but I'm not in a hurry to sell it. I figure I'll put 100,000 miles on it first and weigh my options. Says they'll give me $13,175 for the buyback and $2810 for the restitution.

Is there a cutoff date when you can no longer buy these cars and sell them back?

$2810 for the restitution can't be right. Its a minimum of $5100, even after mileage adjustment. The $5100 minimum applies to both buyback and fix. Maybe your buyback is higher by same correction?

Edit: My bad, just noticed you recently bought and you therefore only get half the restitution. Forget everything I said (again).

The last two cars were sold minutes before I called.....Hmmm, is there something wrong in Denmark?
A few short weeks ago, there was a small ocean of these cars available. It's more like a small lake today, and it's drying up fast.

I bought one last Saturday and while I was paying for it 3 people walked in wanting to look at it. I'm up $4K over my purchase price per the buy back but may just take the 50% restitution and bullet proof it, haven't decided yet.

I'm just titling mine for now. I don't plan on registering and insuring it until right before my appointment, unless they require proof of registration prior to that.

You'll need proof ahead of time in order to schedule your buyback and make it official.

Pretty sure that is step three of the five step process.

Just purchased a 2014 Passat with only 49000 miles. Paid $16500, registered and should see a $7800 check back. Man, they are getting very hard to find!

You guys are buying these things up like crazy. Everyone I call on has been sold within hours or had deposits put down. So am I correct in understanding that the ONLY ones that do not qualify are branded titles or ones bought from a VW dealer after June 28th?
