Tail Pipe Soot

Hello All,

Just wondering why there seems to be a steady stream of black liquid working it's way to the tailpipe of my TDI. Not enough to drip on the ground, but enough to coat the last 1/4 inch of the tailpipe ends. If this makes it all the way to the end, what does the rest of the exhaust system look like?

Probably water condensing in your exhaust system (you've seen cars with water vapor coming out of the exhaust pipe on cold mornings, right? Oh yeah, you're in San Diego...
) mixing with soot from the exhaust.

Perfectly harmless. However it will eventually get to where it drips onto your driveway and stains it.

Thats what I was thinking it was. It wipes off pretty easily, so I'll just keep things clean. Does polishing your tailpipe re-define the term "anal"? If so, I'm guilty!

It certainly DOES redefine the term "anal." And I think it is disgusting!

to update an old saying: what goes up comes down-- in this case what goes in comes out!
You need a road trip to "blow out the cobbs"!
