THE STORY:

My good friend, Ben Byer, who was a member of this forum, passed away unexpectedly in February. I don't know his username and can't seem to find it, but will update this post if someone identifies him. (The car is still sporting the "IT'S A DIESEL" plate frames.)

The car was his baby — he knew it inside and out, and did a few mods (see below), just as he did to basically everything he owned.

I am going to include as much data as I can, to ensure that this beloved Jetta lands in the deserving hands of someone who can continue to give her the love she needs. And she does need some love. But she is also super fun to drive.

KBB claims $3,100 for "fair" condition; I will consider any reasonable offer, and answer any questions I can. Proceeds from the sale will be donated in entirety to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bay Area in memoriam of Ben, as per http://bushing.props.org. I will also make a token donation to TDIclub; just in doing my research for this post, it's been an honor to visit the community.

THE DATA:

- 2004 Jetta (Sedan) TDI.
- 135K miles
- Black w/ black leather interior
- Oil changed religiously with: Mobile 1: 5W-40
- Sunroof
- Tires: unknown age — not new, but treads not terribly worn either
- Mods: Sorry that I don't know the actual names of the procedure, but just what he'd told me:
* it has a chip that "makes it more fun to drive," I think that means more low end torque? but for the life of me I don't yet know what chip it is
* he performed a "ventectomy," there are threads that describe this better than I can
* a Nav unit, I haven't updated the map data

NOTES:
* Over the last few months, OBD has yielded trouble code "P0118 Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Signal too High" — which this thread claims is a $7 part and a 15-minute fix: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=201212

* As of this post, I'm also getting: "P0128 Coolant Thermostat Malfunction", "P0673 No Description Available" which I haven't seen before tonight.

* The driver-side door handle is loose; if you don't apply pressure down while pulling door closed, it pops out. I found a couple possibly related threads, including: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=284966

* There is no cover for the spare in the trunk

RECENT REPAIRS:
* I just had the lights / cruise control stick replaced; it was coming loose, which resulted in lights flickering, so we had this done

* Also had an electronics problem repaired: sometimes, the horn would get stuck on, until you pulled out the fuse.

* Sorry, I don't know the age of the timing belt

IMAGES:

I can take more. Just ask.

Actually, I'm not having much luck with this thing, but I have mirrored this post plus images here: http://props.org/bush/

Thank you, and all the best.
