What kind of car can you get for around 2k that gets 45 miles per gallon and lasts 400k miles? Only these and they are very hard to find.
Good Karma car for those that believe in Karma. This baby is dependable and has never ever stuck me in a bad situation. You how some cars are just bad news. Well this is one of those good ones.
Just spent 700 dollars on new rear brakes, front tires, rear calipers and one spindle. She drives really sweet! What did me in was the little niggly stuff like trunk lock actuator needs to be replaced(have parts), door lock handle weak(Have parts), Driver side lock stick open, Rust spot drivers side, Clear coat peeling, headliner tacked on with thumb tacks(my kids love making patterns with these), Engine is chipped which means you get more power and MPG,
The mid range shaft and pulley is new about two years ago and got done 650 bucks. Repeat there is nothing major wrong with this car. This is like girl or guy with the slight blemish but man they are there for you night and day and you can bank on their dependability. I married one of those and she claims to have no blemish and this is the closest thing you are going to get to that in a car.
Just had complete timing belt done about a year ago including water pump. Not due for another 40k miles. Oil change due in 2k have filter and oil that will go with car along with fancy german coolant and assorted parts worth another 300 dollars or so
mostly silicone hoses replaced most of the braided ones. Those that remained was sealed
Gauge Cluster is fine and replaced a fuse when it started acting weird over 3 years ago.
Car computer with silicone hose and upgraded RC2 tuning also worth about 500 by itself
Injection pump resealed about 3 years this alone is worth a pretty penny and this means you are good to go even to convert it to biodiesel. Most folks check these get a rebuilt one for 1200 as opposed to resealing it for 150 bucks.
Turbo tight with no leaks
Some lights are Led bulbs
Clear Coat is peeling in some places one rust spot on the drivers side door
Has rain guard for all windows so fresh air comes in even when it is raining
Numbskull backed into left corner light slight indent on plastic between headlight and bumper
Parking brake sticks sometimes and will probably have to be replaced
All windows work except for driver side rear
Replaced drivers side window regulator
Previous wienerschnitzel owner tacked on corner window trim pieces with black goo. I have them off for now.
Yes I had bilstein shocks ready to install but I had to sell to pay for other items. Shocks can be replaced at some point in time
Extra parts included door pulls, AC dryer, Turn signal lamps second set, assorted other items such as fuses etc
All locks work except that the driver side which stays unlocked should be an easy fix
have set of pulls for back locks
Sunroof and all power windows work
Engine is solid and was taken care of by a TDI guru in stafford VA. Yea dudes I traveled one hour or more for this guys services. He is the rainman of mechanics without the autism.
Bob has gotten good major care not so much the little details. We name our cars they are part of the family. Bob was named in honor of the TDI club member who helped me find him in deepest darkest vienna VA.
This is the ultimate nerd car because you have to keep it up and you can be smug in that you are driving for free almost while everyone is doing the rat race with their priuses and new cars. Oh yea its a five speed. If you are a dude this gives you instant manly points. If you're a lady you are as attractive as Sports Illustrated model to a real gearhead.
Manual tranny is also a deterrent to your run of the mill thief. Since the driver side does not lock, the fancy radio is in the trunk. You can pop it back in any time.
Main reason I am selling is our Van died and my wife wants a normal car! Honda accord here we come! Shoot me now! At least it will be a stick. Line must be drawn here!!
Set of turn signals maybe included just extra part
After market radio with usb and aux for ipods
I used to track miles and fill up but like the frequency of hanky panky going down after the wedding I got tired of keeping track. here is some partial data.
