Lets start off with my car has been having some hard starting issues since last summer and thought we had it fixed when I realized the lift pump was dead. The car seemed to start much better for a few weeks until it happened again. I'm one of the luck ones that gets to store my car for the winter, so you know how that story goes, I decided to leave it till this spring.

I'm having a friend help me this summer on getting the car back to 100% and when he scanned the car it would appear as though the glow plug harness is shot and that either the cam position sensor has failed or the crank position sensor has failed.

I would just like some help confirming my suspicions before I order parts to fix the car. The one I'm most uncertain about is if it's the cam position sensor of if it's the crank position sensor.

Here are the codes that appeared when he scanned my car with VAG-COM. TIA for any help. :)

The Engine Speed Sensor (G28) reads from the crank.

The one that reads from the cam is called Camshaft Position Sensor (G40).

Before doing anything clear all codes and see what comes back then work from there .
It hard to imagine all this happening at once.
Usually when you have a no start or over cranking condition, g28 and glow plug codes activate.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, since I was really close to ordering a cam position sensor after searching on here and reading about adjusting the torsion value to help with hard starts, replacing the cam position sensor, but not as much about replacing the crank position sensor.

Just wondering if my assessment on replacing the glow plug harness is accurate?

Good call on clearing codes before ordering any parts for the car. I'll mention that to my friend that has my car and see what codes re-appear.

Hopefully he can check tonight and report back.

Be real choosey where you purchase the sensors. I replaced a perfectly good cam sensor with one from one of our vendors here. This new nameless cam sensor caused longer cranking times and also a DTC showed up in VCDS. I replaced it again with a genuine sensor from 1st VW parts. I never heard back from our trusted vendor when I e-mailed his about a possible refund.

Thanks for the heads up on making sure I get a genuine replacement part.

You are making an argument for buying OEM vs non, something worthy of discussion. The vendor is less of the issue because it's the part brand that is the culprit. Would it matter if another vendor sold it? No, you still get the same brand of part. It could have been a faulty part. Electrical parts are typically nonrefundable from brick and mortar stores.

I once got a faulty made part (condensor) and it was clear it was defective so the trusted vendor was able to swap it out.

My friend that's helping me, mentioned that the glow plug light was flashing when he went to start it after he cleared the codes.
He ran a scan afterwards, but for whatever reason the scan didn't save, so he's going to try it again this weekend and make sure it saves.

One thing you might try: Glow plug harness connections --at the plugs-- are apparently prone to corrosion build-up and resulting poor connections. Try removing each of the connectors and then pushing them back on, several times on each one.

Twice now (132K on my '05 BEW) I've gotten the CEL light and P067X code(s); both times the problem was corrected by simply pulling & replacing each of the four GP wires at the plugs to regain a solid electrical connection.

Worth a try... and the price is right!

Thanks for the tip :) and like you mentioned, you can't beat the price of the fix. ;)

You can sort out the glow plug issue.
Certain codes trigger that blinking GP light along with the CEL.
Many report the wires/connections to the crank sensor get buggered up.

After clearing the codes both the glow plug fault came back along with the G28 Engine Speed Sensor fault, so I ordered both the glow plug harness and the engine speed sensor from ID Parts.
Hopefully after replacing both of those items my car will start like it's supposed to all the time and the CEL will go away. :D
