They will fit. They may rub a little at full steering lock. The right rear fender liner my have a protrusion that can been pushed out of the way by loosening the fender liner screws, pushing the hump out, then re tightening the screws.

Go for it!

Anybody else? to be sure because someone told me they don't fit and will rub against the suspension bits.

Thanks again!

Try searching on 205/75R15 instead of -15 you might get more hits.

Also try searching for "show what you tow" and "beef on a budget" and "if I lift 2" what do I need really" use google and include "tdiclub" in the search

Looks good narf! Those are 205 75r15? And do you have a lift on yours? If so how much of a lift?
Thanks for post the pic. I'm looking to get some bigger offroad tires.

In that picture I was only using some rubber blocks to prop up the old springs... I have since lifted 1.5" in the front and 2.5" in the back and fitted only slightly smaller 205/70R15 tires (click the link in my signature for details).

Here is how I used the temporary rubber blocks to prop up the springs:

I'm putting 215/75R15 BFG's onto my wifes 2003 Jetta Wagon :D We are planning to drive all over Alaska in the summer...
I may be wrong but I don't think I am. 215 75 15 won't clear the spring seat on the struts in the front. 27in tires are the limit before it starts rubbing. I put 215 60 17 on on 17in rims which are 27.16in tires on and it rubbed alittle so I took a hammer to the spring seat now no rub but not much room. A 215 75 15 is 27.70in that's why don't think it would fit. That why I may put 205 75 15 on my 15in rims which are 27.11in tires. Correct me if I'm over looking something this is just my experince with look for the largest tire that would fit. Hope this helps someone looking for larger tires.

Will 205/70R15s fit in your spare tire well?

I'm dredging up this old thread because I'm having some 205/70R15 Nokian WRG3s mounted on my car as I type, and this morning I figured out that the new spare won't fit in the spare tire well of my 2000 Golf GLS TDI.

It's not a big deal. I'll cut a piece of 1/4" or 3/8" plywood to reinforce the floor of the hatch area and keep the spare in the hatch area, but this information may be useful to others. It's something to consider when deciding whether or not to use over-sized tires.

I wanted to put really skinny tires for better mpgs, I think my mk5 uses 205/55/16, I really wanna do like a 185 tire if possible for less road resistance. 185/65/16 wonder if it would fit the stock rim without leaking

I'm posting to update my 4/4/14 post. I actually got my spare 205/70R15 Nokian WRG3 in my spare tire well. It will fit. I just had to be brave and stomp on it. It was hard to get back out after that, so I tied wrapped a loop of Nylon webbing through a couple of the holes in the wheel to make it easier to pull the spare out when I need to.
