2005 Passat TDI Wagon
SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD
2005 B5 Passat GLS TDI Wagon, Automatic, 180,000 miles, graphite-blue, gray interior, Florida Panhandle, Asking $4500 OBO.
Love the wagon but need to downsize based on driveway space after our move. Plus she doesn’t get the road trip miles she used to (150 miles round trip to the airport every week minimum for last 12 years). Last US spec VW diesel wagon to come off the German line; tough to let her go but hoping she finds an appreciative home.
I think this forum likes details, so here goes. I bought the Passat Wagon in January of 2008 with 47,000 miles on it from the first owner. It was my daily driver for 12 years. I drive pretty aggressively and still averaged about 32 mpg mixed and 38 mpg on the highway. I drove it for a total of 133,000 miles and fixed everything that ever wore out. I am not a mechanic, but, the repairs were always done by a professional shop. Today, absolutely everything on the car works. No alibis.
The body is in great shape with no rust and just one scratch and a couple of small dents. The paint still polishes up well and shines nicely. The interior seats, carpets, dash and controls are in good shape.
In 2010, I learned about the Balance Shaft issue from this forum and drove the car from North Carolina to St. Louis to Mr. Oilhammer at Car-Doc Automotive. The car had 82,299 miles. He upgraded the Balance Shaft Module, replaced the timing belt and water pump, and installed a Rocket Chip upgrade to the ECM. The performance boost from the Rocket Chip was significant. I have faithfully changed the oil and used 505.01 5W40 synthetic oil.
The list of parts that have been replaced includes: BHW Balance Shaft Retrofit, Engine Mounts, Rocket Chip, Left & Right CV joint assembly, Alpine Sirius XM radio/CD player, Left front drivers window regulator, Left Driveshaft assembly, New Turbo and all Turbo vacuum lines, Engine timing belt and water pump (both twice), Brake fluid reservoir, EGR cooler pipe, Turbo blow off valve pipe, Front Brake job (pads & turned rotors), entire Automatic Transmission Assembly, A/C condenser fan motor, Radiator fan assembly, and the car’s Battery. The Michelin Primacy tires have 27,000 miles of wear and normally last me about 42,000 miles.
Here is a detailed breakdown of the repairs.

Like I already said, I am not a mechanic, so it is obvious that I have spent a lot of money to keep this Passat running as close to perfect as I can. My expense is the next owner’s gain. Everything that would need to be replaced has been replaced by me. She should give good service for another 180,000 miles with just normal expenses.
How do I justify my asking price?
NADA Clean retail $4775
Kelley Blue Book high retail $4907
Required Maintenance that I have already accomplished:
New Turbo, New Automatic Transmission (German built OEM, New) $8600
My asking price: $4500
