Today, I went in for my 50K mile service, the dealership is now using a new oil, which is VW branded bottle, 0W-30, 504/507. Its identical in shape as the Mobil-1 ESP 0W-30 1-littler bottle. I guess they switched from Castrol Edge to Mobil-1 ESP. I couldn't figure out how to upload a photo of the new bottle. The new part number is G-E55-030-1Q-DSP and its listed as backward compatible with VW 505 01 spec.

Here around Ottawa, Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 is currently on sale at CanTire for $35 instead of $65 CDN for 4.74 litres (5 US quarts). Looks like they are clearing it out, as only certain stores have inventory and you can't order it in online.

NAPA here a while back had the Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 on sale. I picked up 24 bottles at $5.50 a bottle. About half the price of the new stuff or even some of the old stuff.

Thanks for the heads up, mheat! I picked up some today at my local Canadian Tire. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...-synthetic-motor-oil-4-73-l-0289448p.html#srp

Maybe about the best price we Canadians will see for a 507.00, I think?
I don't know how long the sale price is on for, no info regarding that.

I've noticed in the past when CanTire stops carrying a product, they put it on sale until it is gone. If the local store has 0 in stock, you can't order it in like with normal flyer sale items. It looks like that is the case here. My local store doesn't have any, but I can buy it online at a nearby store, and go pick it up.

I didn't think M1 ESP 5W30 came in 5qrt, jugs first I've seen it.

Either way I'm happy that NAPA had 6L cases for $5.48/l a while back, 48L sitting on my shelf. Maybe they were blowing out old inventory knowing new ESP 0W30 was coming out?

Price per fluid oz can't be beat except for when Pep Boys didn't have exclusions for their M1 black friday sale of $5/L 6-8 years ago.

Canadian Tire - might be why you haven't seen it. :D

I went to my local store and picked up four jugs of the Mobil1 ESP - beats the hell out of the $18/L for the 507.00 Castrol on the shelf nearby.

That and storage/waste of jugs vs individual bottles is much better.

Also don't kill me, but I changed the oil in the Ariens snow blower this past weekend, looked on the shelf didn't have 5W30 anything, I dipped into an open 5qt jug of Total 507 from the Passat and stole 20oz :(

Not so fast ;-)
This Quaker State Euro LX 0W-30 goes on sale for $31.99 tomorrow:

I just purchased a new-to-me 2013 GSW TDI, so was in to my local CT today turning over every bottle I could looking for the 507 approval.
The only non-0 weight oil I could find was the Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30.

And not to be beat, this MotoMaster OE Plus 0W-30 is only $27.49 (sale ends today):

I probably should have picked up the MotoMaster as it's likely the exact same Shell formula as the Quaker State, I just wasn't sure if I should be running that weight here in the PNW where it's not brutally cold.

and that's in Canadian Kopecks too!

Sadly I know i'd be stopped at the boarder and questioned what I was doing with 48L of motor oil.
