fuel line: pre-formed or just good fuel line replacement

2004 Jetta Wagon TDI with 203k miles. Noting the fuel lines coming off Fuel Filter showing cracking and age. Is it best to use the pre-formed hose that VW sells for around $200 for each pair (1j0-130-295-e & 1j0-130-307-t), or can one use just standard fuel line hose rated and sized for VW?

I just used the generic one from ID parts.. you'll need a few zip ties to keep it in place. No problem at all except for aesthetics.

use regular, pre formed as you see is $$$$$$$$$$$$!

Yeah I got took on this very thing by vw. My fittings were leaking air into the suction side and I assumed the new pre formed from vw had the clear section in it...it doesn't and I was stuck with it.

I replaced those same lines on my ,04, used Gates Barricade hose which is biodiesel safe, and zip tied them in place.

was that Gates Barricade hose the 5/16" (7.9 mm)? Any particular source to buy from here?

I got mine from id parts. I believe it had a metric size. Their site should guide you along as to what will work on your pd engine.
