hey everyone :) excited to be a part of this community. I am thinking about changing the brake fluid in my 2015 VW Golf. I believe the one recommended by VW is DOT 4 but I have heard that I could even use DOT 5.1 and that would work as well. Is this true? Is 5.1 going to be better than 4 in any way? I was thinking of buying the Motul brake fluid? Is there one that you have used and would recommend over the Motul?

Thank you :)

Yeah, you can use DOT 5.1, it is better in that it has higher boiling points. Just make sure not to use DOT 5, that will destroy your brake system.

Motul is a high quality brand. If your car is a manual you use brake fluid for the clutch hydraulics as well.

There are just too many to list....
They spec DOT4 LV, not all DOT4 is LV (most isn't).

There is a difference. We use Textar or Ate or Pentosin branded stuff here.

I just got the OEM stuff from my dealer for $8/500mL (CAD) - so, like $12USD/L.

Figured I'm not going to beat that price by much anywhere else...and will avoid any questions as to whether or not it meets spec (VW 501 14). :)
