2009 sportwagen cruise control

After weeks of reading and researching I think I give up and ask, what could be wrong with my cruise control? The switch tests fine in vcds, but I can't get the green light working on the instrument cluster.
Just got the car recently.

One thing I didn't mention is that the blue and white wires were split in the stalk which I've reconnected but there was still no green light in the on position which I was used to on a 2003 and 2006 Jettas... When all else fails, read the user manual. On the 2009 the light only comes on when the cruise is set to a speed. I feel pretty dumb for never trying that this whole time.
I'm just glad I never got to removing the steering wheel and all that.
