The sunroof and AWD are must haves so that's getting us up to 40k MSRP, I bet it will be tough to get it down to even 33k. Hmm, might have to settle for the LT with the sunroof. The dealers are running $5000 of Equinoxes right now, hopefully it's not just a January thing.

Yes but the regulations here change a lot of tow ratings. My JSW is rated at 1500kg in Europe but only 1500 pounds here. The later model JSWs with DSG are not rated for towing at all.

I can't get a gauge on demand for the diesels. GM for once is making a big deal out of offering the engine, it's in ads and is mentioned first with two pages in the brochure but I don't find many on lots in searches but the ones I do have stuck around for weeks. I just can't tell if dealers are feeling like they're stuck with them and willing to make deals or if they're rare and won't make deals.

Bought Equinox TD on Jan 31st

I purchased a 2018 Chevy Equinox TD on January 31st to replace my 2012 Passit that is scheduled for buyback. The info display calculates average mileage over the previous 25 miles. Driving back from the dealership, I was impressed with the 51.1 MPG indicated average.

They must be catching on since the salesperson found several nearby. Unfortunately when he would call, he discovered that most had already been sold. They finally located one to my liking that was 435 miles away. The Equinox has more bells and whistles than I really care for but I am satisfied with the deal.

My only disappointment is that there are only 2 pedals in the floor.

I went to an auto show in San Jose CA recently, and the domestic manufacturers had test drive fleets. People on the floor and at sign-up said they had a Diesel Equinox, but when I got to the test drive station, they said no Diesel. Walked away.

Too bad, because I'm really interested in these. But I ended up buying a buyback '15 Jetta TDI last weekend, so no new cars for me for a while.

I'm really interested in what you owners are getting on fuel economy, AdBlue usage, service intervals and costs, problems that pop up, and how they hold up over time and miles.

okay. It is new!
But, I drive a B4v. And it does take maintenance. But, I love it.

Was Looking for a new car, for my wife...this took me more work! for a 2015 Wagon-- They wanted $22,500. And would not move! For another $10,000 and a All Wheel Drive + Diesel & loaded, we (or I) did the Equinox.

Only time will tell what you are asking too many questions about a car that just entered the market. How they will hold up over time and miles will only be determined after time and mileage have been achieved..........that takes time.

Soldierguy,

Oil change every 5,000 miles.

DEF 4.5 gallons every 5,000-6,000 miles.

Equinox TD by the numbers.

As a traveling sales and marketing person, I have been using my JSW to travel to trade shows all around the country. I have opted to to use my personal vehicle and accept the IRS standard 53.5 cents per mile reimbursement from my employer. As my TDI JSW nears the end of its 5 year and 150,000 mile duty cycle, my new Equinox TD will assume its role on the trade show circuit.

I average 30,000 miles a year business travel. Here are the expense calculations for the Equinox TD and how they stack up against my reimbursement per mile.

Fuel .056 cents per mile (based on 50 mpg at $2.80/gallon)
DEF 2/10ths of one cent per mile
Insurance 3.8 cents per mile
Oil Changes 1.5 cents per mile (based on $75.00 every 5,000 miles)
Vehicle cost 19 cents per mile (based on $28,500.00 over 150,000 miles)

These expenses total up to 30.1 cents per mile according to my calculations or $9030.00 per year.

My employer reimbursement for 30,000 miles this year will total up to $16,050.00. Even if i need to spring for a new set of tires at $500.00 next year, I will still come out ahead.

50 MPG seems optimistic. What were you seeing in the JSW? Equinox may do a little less.
And what about scheduled maintenance and repairs out of warranty? Brakes? Other failures?

Even accounting for those items, it's pretty clear you'll come out ahead.

This is the basis for the 50 MPG estimate for fuel mileage.

Not a good guide. An estimate over 25 miles isn't representative. EPA for the Equinox Diesel is 28/38, a little lower than the JSW. So you should see FE like your JSW, maybe a MPG or two lower.

Still not quite as good as the JSW but 8 cubic feet more cargo space.

The EPA numbers for my JSW are 29 city and 39 Highway.

The EPA mileage estimate for MY Equinox TD in front wheel drive is 28 city and 39 highway.

EPA highway estimate for the AWD (all wheel drive) Equinox is 38 mpg highway.

The dealer found the Equinox that met my specifications at a dealership that was 435 miles away. They had to do an inventory trade to get it into their inventory.

When the driver arrived with my new Equinox, the display indicated that his average and best were 45.5 mpg and he was not an experienced TDI driver.

Just after leaving the dealership and getting familiar with the vehicle, my mileage was indicating 47.6 mpg. My next 25 mile average was 49.7 mpg and after slowing down to somewhere near the speed limit a got the 51.1 mpg indication as I arrived at my office.

I would have loved to bought a NEW 2018 JSW 6-speed manual fro VW of Clarksville... there just weren't any available.

5000 mile oil change interval seems a little low these days. Most new cars and trucks I've looked at are posting at least 7500. Is Chevy using synthetic oil and how much per change?

We have over 3000 miles now on our equinox and consistently getting 40-42 mpg hand calculated.
Just curious...

How does the vehicles calculation compare with your hand calculation?

What type of driving or ratio of city to highway on the Equinox?

What is your 2013 TDI and what kind of fuel economy does it achieve?

At present, I am getting only 36-38 mpg indicated but I am only driving 1/4 to 3 mile jaunts around town.

GM recommends a 7500 mile oil change and the diesel uses Dexos 2, which is full synthetic.

They also recommend draining water out of the separator at 7500, too.

The car calculates the mileage on the chevy pretty close to hand calculated.Truck is driven 150 miles a day of mostly highway . The jetta got 42 pretty consistent before it was bought back.

If anyone has any Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 left over from their TDIs, it's Dexos 2 approved. ;)

There are 4 Equinox TDs on the Fuelly site, each with around 10 fill ups, averaging between 24 to 38 mpgs. Sounds consistent with the EPA rating.
