I'd like to buy a genuine VCDS. Anyone have any leads? How do I ensure it is a true VCDS not an ebay ripoff?

Update: SGII is sold

I have a genuine Ross-Tech VCDS cable I no longer need since I updated to the latest version. The one I have to sell is a Key-Com, which will work with cars up to 2005 and computers with a serial port.

As I understand it, distributing the Ross-Tech software is a breach of the rules. The hardware is is not subject to any restrictions, but only the registered owner is entitled to support. You can register used cables by paying a fee to Ross-Tech and then be eligible for support.

Genuine cables have an inbuilt 'dongle' with a registration code in it. When you have a legit cable (any legit Ross-Tech cable), the software (free to download) will detect it and run in 'registered' mode. The only thing requiring 'ownership transfer' is the support agreement, which is optional.
