Another dead radio
2011 TDI Sportwagen - Radio and horn not working.
Radio suddenly cut out while we were driving. Similar symptoms as others, in that the bluetooth pairs, but no sound, no lights. Other controls on steering wheel work fine.
Rear seat passenger says she occasionally hears (with younger ears) a brief sound from the speakers, although I could not confirm that from my driver position.
This radio quit happened just a few days after a TDI-specialist shop was diagnosing my horn not working, and traced the probable cause for that horn to an aftermarket wiring harness for a previous owner's remote car starter, which she later had disconnected. I'm rescheduled for that repair next week.
Notable perhaps is that the aforementioned previous owner also complained about pesky battery power loss when parked. The removal of the remote starter unit was part of her attempts to remove the battery drain. I have not experienced this, but my battery is new.
I'll have that harness removed net week and hope it reignites both the horn function and the radio. I'm counting on them to solve this.
If the radio is faulty, and they have no replacement, I'm guessing that an aftermarket unit may be a better solution, so I would value any recommendations on ones that pair well with the existing car's systems, including dashboard display and steering wheel controls.
Q: Is adding a backup camera complex? Is the wiring already there?
