that is not the metal that chipped away. The edge of your rotor is all rusted, the metal is all oxidized otherwise it would not have chipped.

You can grind the sharp edges off and keep on using them, but you are better off getting a new pair of rotors.

I'd take the sharp edges off and not worry about it. You are most likely due for new brakes soon. Keep an eye on it, if it gets any worse do your brake job a bit early (new pads/rotors)

Actually there's a lot of pad left. We do mostly highway driving. Some guys in the Passat forum are still running original pads at 150,000km

Guess I'll file it off a bit and just keep a closer eye on pad wear from now on, as you guys suggest. Gawd I hate the salt.
