I need to change the timing belt, am looking for a kit, what do you use?
Also something called "diesel clean" that i'm unable to find out where to buy or how to use due to the search engine not being the easiest to use (only brings up most recent posts about unrelated info)
Also would like to change the fuel filter
Basically, where do you buy your parts?
Thanks!

There are several vendors. This list is not all inclusive but you will get good service and parts from:

www.idparts.com
www.1stvwparts.com (a VW dealer that sells parts online at competitive prices)
www.worldimpex.com

There are several other respected vendors but I have not personally used them. I am sure others will add to this list.

Please do a search for the name 'prothe' and heed the advice.

You are looking for an additive to fuel? diesel KLEEN. Autozone/advanced auto, Pepboys, Napa, Carquest they all have it.

for parts the list goes (in no particular order)

idparts.com
boraparts.com
metalmanparts.com
worldimpex.com
dieselgeek.com
1stvwparts.com

I've used all of them, and they have served me well. If the prices are way cheaper somewhere else, consider it suspect chinese/not well made parts and move on.

Also, if you find another site that seems to have really good prices on parts, or perhaps an ebay auction that has a good buy it now price - check to see if the site is associated (do a whois lookup) to see if it is associated with "prothe" or "rothenbacher engineering" - if so, walk away.

Buy from TDIclub vendors they assist in keeping this site free. I know you hate all the pop ups from other sites.

I've had good luck with Autohausaz.com

..they have parts for my MK1 (VW Pickup), Mercedes 300SD (gasp!) and the TDI.
