Hi- I am replacing some front end components- struts, ball joints, wheel bearings etc. I pressed out the old bearing, pressed in the new one into the steering knuckle with no problem. Then I pressed in the hub, which also went smoothly. I noticed however that there is some play in the hub. The manual says that the inner race is an interference fit.
I noticed a difference in the hubs as well- the one just installed into the knuckle had a slight chamfer about halfway up where it gets pressed onto the bearing which lessens the diameter where it meets the bearing half which goes on the axle first when assembled. The other hub upon examination has a smooth shaft surface with no change in diameter. Is it possible that I have the wrong hub? I had a wheel bearing changed a few years ago so it's possible that the hub in question was replaced. Thanks for any input. This is driving me nuts, which is a short commute on the best of days.
At least the crocuses are up!
